THIS WEEK’S FEATURED WATCH
Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional ref 310.30.42.50.01.001 “Domino’s Pizza”
Find the Omega 310.30.42.50.01.001 for sale here: www.bobswatches.com/omega/ome...
The first watch worn on the Moon and one of the world’s most well-known pizza establishments - an unlikely duo.
What is a Domino’s Watch?
Domino’s Pizza often uses luxury watches as incentives for its employees and franchisee owners. Previously, those watches were Rolexes and were part of what was known within the company as the “Rolex Challenge.”
Domino’s Watches range from subtle logos furnished in matching metal and often affixed to a bracelet link to colorful logos proudly displayed on the watch face. They are becoming something of a cult favorite because of their fascinating history, which we expect will one day join the ranks of other highly collectible double-branded watches.
Our surprise unboxing today is a charming Domino’s Pizza watch. However, we have the beloved Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch Professional instead of an entry-level Rolex.
Ref. 310.30.42.50.01.001: This model takes much design inspiration from the Speedy that once made history as the first watch on the Moon. The case is outfitted with a Hesalite crystal, similar to the 4th generation Speedmaster from 1969. This material was preferred over more durable sapphire because it cracks and doesn’t shatter. As you can imagine, crystal shards are not ideal while confined in a space shuttle in zero gravity.
Like the 1969 model, the case is asymmetrical and sports the iconic twisted Lyre lugs, step dial with downward sloping edges, and aluminum bezel with a dot over 90 - aka “DON”- Tachymeter scale.
What’s also fascinating about this model is the caliber 3861 hand-wound movement. Omega describes this caliber as a descendant of the movement that once went to the Moon, now featuring the title of a modern Master Chronometer, better anti-magnetism, and a 50-hour power reserve.
The Speedy featured in this week’s episode also sports a striking bracelet with “five arched links per row” and a fold-over-style clasp, a 42mm case with 50 meters of water resistance, and a case back decorated with an embossed Omega Seahorse medallion.
The case also features the famous Moon Watch text reading, “FLIGHT-QUALIFIED BY NASA IN 1965 FOR ALL MANNED SPACE MISSIONS,” and “THE FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON.”
The Domino’s Pizza connection: Besides sporting the coveted Moon Watch design set, this pre-owned Omega is also decorated with a matching stainless steel Domino’s Pizza logo on the bracelet links.
