Le ténor Jonas Kaufmann interprète Don Carlos à l'Opéra de Paris, dans une nouvelle production mise en scène par Krzysztof Warlikowski (retransmise en direct au cinéma le 19 octobre 2017 dans le cadre du programme Viva l'Opera!). Dans un entretien avec Alain Duault, Jonas Kaufmann revient notamment sur les originalités de cette version française de l'oeuvre de Verdi.

J'apprécie toujours quand les grands artistes comme JK, Pappano ou autres parlent d'un opéra, il y a toujours des choses a apprendre. Ici mon plaisir est un peu gaché: je parle francais, anglais, un peu italien - mais avec l'allemend je ne me débrouille pas. A la base des questions je sente qu'il faudrait prendre connaissance des réponses aussi - mais ... Une version soutitrées, quelque part?

Why are the questions in French and responses in German? Weird given he speaks French fluently

I for one appreciated his replies in German. Albeit he is fluent in French, I think he has realised his proficiency in this language is not quite up to the level that would allow him to express his thoughts correctly. In his mother tongue he can say what he wants to say, as compared to any other foreign language where he says what he is able to say. And he has so many interesting things to say and such a deep insight into the opera and the character he sings that it would be a pity to have them lost due to diffculties of expressing himself in French.

Opera is TOO two-dimensional. There is a serious soul problem in the pit. When I watch I am constantly thinking 'This can be done better'.

I just know . . . I just know. That's all I can say. I never, never chase skirts. I never, never chase money. ALL of my 64 years are with music listening and newspapers. I have stigmata many times over (hopefully real and 'not' 'Clockwork Orange') and also love their music. I just know . . . that opera can be done much, much better than what I experience. It's (opera presentation-current) is too over the top with material (staging) things and performance is way too over the top shouting-matches between singers AND vs. the orchestra. People PAY to witness. They'll 'listen' if you would just stop beating on their eardrums.

Vous avez les sous-titres en français! ici ! Sur le côté droit de l'écran, prés de avec le symbole rouge HD..cliquez dans la box avec cc. Subtitles ! You can choose other languages, but the translations are usually terrible ! :) Vous avez toujours des S|T automatiques

Parlez-vous Français ? The French S\T works just fine and I understood every word. If you dont speak French, you have to click on "settings " and then click on French and then, Auto-translate. Choose English or whatever.. and then you have a translation in another language. But in that case, yes, the text is totally nonsense ;)Good Luck. If you understand French, there's no reason for your comment. It works just fine.

Je me suis plutot bien débrouillée avec, je n'avais pas de probleme... Mais en informatique je suis nulle, je ne saurai pas vous conseiller :(
