In a virtuoso display of oboe artistry and musically intelligent software design, Christopher Raphael performs the oboe version of Don Freund's "Random Acts of Kindness" accompanied by his "Cadenza" application. This is the recording made by application in its record mode and demonstrates the sound quality and musical sensitivity of the software in a studio environment. Although it was thrilling to hear Chris's recital performance in Auer Hall ( • Don Freund's Random Ac... ), this studio recording is the preferred way to appreciate the beauty of his playing and the depth of interpretation possible using this software.

Composer's program notes:
Eugene Rousseau who passed this August is remembered as an icon of the saxophone world, an extraordinary human being, and a beloved friend. I wrote Random Acts of Kindness (for soprano saxophone and piano) to celebrate Gene’s retirement from a renowned career of teaching. Random Acts appears this afternoon in a version for oboe and Cadenza Live Accompanist, an application developed by Christopher Raphael, head of the Music Informatics program at IU’s Luddy School. Cadenza allows you to practice, rehearse and perform with live piano, orchestra, or chamber accompaniment that follows you in real-time using musical artificial intelligence. Chris is also a wonderful oboist, and when I heard how exquisitely Chris and his recorded accompanist (Maria Bieliakova, who lives in Kyiv!) captured all lyrical freedom and ensemble nuances of Random Acts, I had to share this with a recital audience.
