I was watching a podcast (might’ve been on here) where Don Frye and Dan Severn were sat in one of the others homes chatting and answering viewers questions. Don was giving Dan absolute shit 😂😂 Dan was taking it. It was clear these two got on really well. When it comes down to it, these two guys competed at the beginning of MMA. Proper old school dudes who fought with no time limits. Before you knew about your opponent and was able to review how your opponent fought. Dan Severn, where people might call him boring to watch, he was/is hard as hell. As a massive fan of vale tudo/mma, got to have respect for both Don & Dan. They certainly paved the way.

Don was hard as nails, yet he epitomises humbleness and decency. His fight with Yoshihiro is the stuff of legends, in which he took the slightly lesser of two beatings, yet he puts all the praise on his opponent. A true legend in every way.

@2:14 he says "Him and Sakuraba are the two toughest Japanese walking the planet" then he pauses and thinks about what he said and at first you think he's regretted that "walking" comment, but I think he was just so heartbroken about Takayama's paralysis. Not only is the the amount respect that he has for him so touching, but so is the amount of sympathy he has for him.

First time I ever watched UFC was when UFC 6 released on home video. I remember my buddy renting UFC 5 & 6 and watching it over at this house. I had only heard of "The Ultimate Fighter" at that point and was excited to check it out. Looking back, it feels even more exciting now considering how massive it's become! I remember local toughman contests got really popular around that time period. Note: I remember my buddy getting pissed because they only had the VHS copy of UFC 6. He had just gotten a new VHS/DVD combo and was mad he couldn't use the DVD player for the fight. lol
