In my opinion Antonacci is wonderful as Donna Elvira... and not only, watch her Carmen or Cassandra!. I love this production, simple static scenes and extravagant baroque costumes... changing every scene, from middle age to "modern" late 19h century. I think it's important to watch the full opera to appreciate these details. And here I'm just ignoring the rest of its wonderful cast: with Anna Caterina sing Carlos Alvarez, Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, Michael Schade, Angelika Kirchschlager, Adrianne Pieczonka,... and Muti...

Beautiful costumes of opulence, just as the Don should be portrayed. I still think Don Giovanni should be performed as a modern piece though because Don Giovanni syndrome is alive and well in 2022 up to this very day and remains intact as a system~! IF it's portrayed as being something "of the past" then people may dismiss it as some relic of a former time.

A production of Don Giovanni was directed by Peter Sellars in 1990, and it was set in modern-day Harlem. It starred Eugene Perry as Don Giovanni and his twin, Herbert Perry, as Leporello. It is excellent and available on KZbin.
