To my mind one of the greatest scenes in all of opera. Don Giovanni is a comic opera which also has the depth of a great tragedy. It reveals the darkness, the shadow of sin, of moral baseness, and this scene brings it all together. So much going on here. What magnificence, what genius!

I was lucky enough to see this live at Covent Garden all those years ago, great to be reminded nothing has ever matched up to this production and cast since. TA the one and only Don. Thanks for posting.

I love that production too. 'Completeness' is a good word to describe it. If it were issued on DVD, I think it would have few rivals -:)

the 3 on-stage orchestras really nailed that scene - all staying in their respective tempi and yet perfectly together .... not easy !!

Glad you like it. I'm not a big Terfel fan, but I admit that he's excellent as Masetto (this was his Covent Garden debut, I think). I quite like Desderi here (not his voice, but his acting). But it's a matter of personal preference, of course! I'm just uploading the scene featuring "Ho capito", so watch this space-:)
