I bought this video back when it came out. Although the instructor wasn't as well known as some of the other MI crowd, I think he offered a more insightful approach than most of them. He presents ideas in an easy to understand manner while showing useful and practical applications which is (was) much different than the speed motivated videos of the time. Put another way, this information transcends a single type of music and has good utility in a number of contexts. The same could NOT generally be said of some of the other videos at the time

Some of those "speed" orientated instructional videos were hilarious, with the tab flying by at 100 MPH along the bottom of the screen.

@atlantaguitar96892 жыл бұрын
@@AlexSosaBolivia yea - I remember those. You had to be careful not to lose the accompanying booklet. Some of those videos were ridiculous in content. One of the shredders basically just demonstrated the modes at various speeds, did a couple of tap and sweep licks with an equipment walk through. Those tapes were not cheap!
@SxTxD_KY2 жыл бұрын
@Atlanta Guitar Sounds like Bruce Bouillet's Progressive Rock Guitar. Love the guy, but it was not a good video. About six months into my playing, I noticed two VHS tapes collecting dust on the shelf at the music store I took lessons at. I had to choose between the aforementioned tape or one with Craig Goldy (Dio), and thank God I picked Craig's because it was fun to watch and super inspiring to me at the time.

Don mock is the teacher and fusion jazz guitarist ever in my opinion, everything makes sense when he explains and teach and when you heard it the notes show you the cord where he is, other teachers like frank gambale it’s just truly bad teacher. Teaching is an art and don mock has the art of teaching perfectly

TRM notes 15:04 playing a F (major) pentatonic ver a C7 chord 15:29 playing a Bb pentatonic major over C7 These are all in the key of F “every key center has three major pentatonics in it” for C major, it’s F major G major and C major 21:06 so is he just harmonizing the F major scale with arpeggios? G minor Bb major 7 E minor 7 flat 5 He says he is choosing the arpeggios based on each individual note of the C7 chord Come back to 18:53 and especially 23:48

Hmm, don't know about the rest of you, C- in the Real Book to me is Cminor. - = minor, + = aug, 0= diminished, I don't know how to make the 0 with a slash for min7b5. Fine player, but from the git, he's calling minor chord symbols dominant. The fake book would just say C7 for a dom 7, CΔ7 for a Major 7, Cdim or C0 for a diminished, Calt for a b5#5, b9#9 (players choice) and so on.

I remember downloading this in the Limewire/pre-YT days. Just found it on my old hard-drive. Wanna know why the quality is so bad? It was 700+MB at 240p... that could've been hours of downloading depending on your type of internet connection back then. My file is slightly less blurry than this, but the notation is just as hard to read. BUT I wrote it all out on paper, so I might make a pdf is anyone is interested.
