You are totally incorrect in your assumptions on how to adjust the Pumpkin neck turner. The two pieces of the body are made on an eccentric and turning the rear piece is how you fine tune the thickness of the cut, each hash mark is moving the cutter .0001” in or out. The length of cut is made by moving the mandrel in or out and locking it in place with the other set screw on the side than the one that holds the bodies in place. It’s a shame to see one used like this being they are no longer available and are in high demand by guys that know how to use them properly.

I can confirm this - I have one and it is much easier to adjust depth of cut compared to the basic versions by K+M etc

I got really lucky and found it brand new from a seller on accurateshooter.com. I may be selling it soon though.

And here I was all excited that Im an excellent neck turner with my 21st Century Lathe. Thanks :( - just kidding, thank you for the amazing content, truly educational and appreciated - not by my wallet of course. Do you still use the 21st century or are you using an IDOD and if so is the incremental cost and complexity worth it?Seems like if you size using mandrels (I do two operations - find doing two smaller steps is better than 1, but wtf do I know) I get pretty great concentricity (although still waiting on my never coming AccuracyOne gauge to measure the inside of the necks with better accuracy. But overall my TIR seems to be below 1 consistently. Worth the upgrade? Any effect on accuracy or consistency, I should say?

To be honest I don’t turn necks anymore. Maybe I’ll go back in the future but for now I’m shooting a no-turn chamber and really liking it. Much easier on my hands. It’s not a reflection on the tools in anyway or the process itself, just my approach to it.

@@FClassJohn Im still a newbie and in the stage that I actually enjoy it. That makes sense though. I guess at the end of the day, if you are getting consistent neck tension, why even bother. Thanks!

I'm thinking about buying a neck turning tool, was looking at the PMA item, have you any experience with that one?

No I’m sorry I don’t. A close friend uses it and swears by it but that’s as close as I can get you. Sorry.

COULD A BIGFOOT TURNER BE USED IN YHE SAME FASHION….AS THE PUMPKIN IS NOT TO BE FOUND?

I’m not personally familiar with them but they appear to be basically the same thing.

@@85ZERO17 I think the 21st century neck turning is fantastic and very reasonably priced. I don't turn necks anymore but if I did I'd probably still be using that. I loved mine.

THATS SOUNDS GOOD. WHAT SET UP? THEIR COMPLETE LATHE OR JUST THE LOOSE TURNER USED BY HAND OR CHUCKED UP IN SOMETHING OR…?
