I heard Don Pullen once, in Norrköping Sweden playing with Mingus, Addams, Walrath, Richmond. I can vividly remember Pullen's playing, the surprising phrases he would play and how he appeared so cool while playing on fire. Mingus was in a very good mood, humming and strumming, bowing and laughing. A fantastic evening. I will never forget Pullen.

@@michaelhoffman5486 five personalities on stage that night. 1975, it was snowing. Pullen was cool, Mingus relaxed and joyful, Addams confident, Walrath introvert, Richmond smart.

Don Pullenの背筋をピンと伸ばし、とても良い姿勢で神がかり的なソロを奏でる姿が印象的です。

Don Pullen was truly one of the greatest jazz pianists, maybe my favorite of all time. And this video rocks! Always loved this group and this tune. Thanks, paris0820!

pullen is so composed and put together at the piano. relaxed but still very upright. i'll never reach that level but i'm aspiring to that kind of clearness in my playing so that people can understand what i say. but i'm just an amateur pianist, not even a professional.

A true musical genius. "Manic energy has rarely sounded this good". If you liked this, also check out "Indio Gitano" from "Random Thoughts". The NPR Jazz Blog named it one of the great 75 solos in Blue Note history. There's no question that Don Pullen had a touch for what Morton called the "Spanish Tinge". Thanks for sharing this!

¡Es maravilloso! Un estadounidense, un panameño, dos brasileños y un senegalés haciendo una música a la que ni el mayor purista flamenco andalúz podría poner ninguna pega. Lástima que el título se refiera a la bárbara tradición del toreo.

All embracing performance, a real and substantial Ode To Life. A great favorite of mine, Don Pullen is being away from Planet Earth now for 25 years. Anyhow, the song was written by him and not by Kenny Dorham as the film states.
