Don Q will always be that go to ballet for a Spanish love story and I'm so here for it. I can't even tell you how many times I would do that infamous Act I variation because it's just so fun and so energetic. However I will say out of all the acts, the last act happens to be my favorite by far. Idk why but I'm a sucker for a wedding and when he presents them both to the audience at the end gets me every time.

I really apriciate that the part of Rocinante (the horse) is cast with a real horse. Does it have its own choreograhy? Is it requiered to take part in class? For my taste there are too many bullfighters, but too few bulls. Just a couple of bulls would give a very dramatic flair.

Yeah- they have to be Specifically trained to be around the dancers and the sounds of the audience and the music. The person leading the horse in that production, also had to have training for that too. I love😍"Don Q"! "Don Q" is ballet🔥! Thank you so much ladies for your comments! There's so many iconic scenes and dances in this ballet. My favorites are: The castanet variations for Kitri and Basilio in the marathon Act 1 pas de deux, Kitri's first entrance and Espada the Matador and his cape in Act 1; Amour's variation, (as danced by Evgenia Obraztsova - the best Amour EVER🥳💯💥), Natalia Dudinskaya's variation which only Victoria Tereshkina dances at the Mariinsky in Act 2; the Fandango, Grand Pas Espagnole and Wedding pas de deux in Act 3. Which company owns "Don Q?" I'd have to say the Bolshoi. They did it first and they do it best.

Oo, so sorry. I'm going to be *that* person: in Spanish, the soft "C" isn't pronounced as "CH", as it is in Italian. In Spanish, soft "C" will either sound like "S" the way it does in English, or, if you're pronouncing it as they do in Castilian, you say "TH" as in "Thing". So Dulcinea is not "Dool-chin-ea" but either "Dool-seen-ea" or "Dool-Theen-ea".

I really want to see a lesbian version of this ballet, a feminine lesbian basilla (or basillo- might be better not to change the name at all), pursues a masc Kitri and Don Quixote is the one who convinces Lorenzo that lesbians are good and Kitri doesn’t have to marry a man, and they live happily ever after! Thanks for being the real ones and inspiring me (discovering yall in my survey of dance forms college class), to want to pursue ballet at the old age of 21- I might not be able to become a principal ballerina like my inspiration Natalia Osipova but maybe I could do choreography, start my own company, or work for a smaller company while pursuing my other interests as well in a somewhat coherent career/lifestyle including anthropology, ballet, aviation, and gay stuff.

Thank you very much, ladies, for bringing us the different dance adaptations of this iconic work of world literature in such an informative, profound, and charming way. Ehm, but was there really a real horse on stage during a production? Interesting fact: Cervantes wrote part of this great work in prison - yes, he had some difficulties in life...

There's actually a musical based on Don Quixote (called Man of La Mancha) that, while some changes are made, encapsulates the story really well! i saw don quixote as an opera a while ago and the stage was very simple with the orchestra and singers on stage in a sort of cozy setting, but there was a big table of candies with a trumpet on it too, and they used it to create the landscape don quixote explores in his adventure!! there were also puppey dolls for when don quixote rescues a moor princess (i think??) its obviously miles away from a ballet stage but its such a big memory i have, and id love to see the ballet!!

Don Quixote Hokey Pokey is much more complicated than I had realized! Thank goodness I had you as my guides! My biggest question, which is also incredibly relevant, is: What if the horse poops on stage? I don't understand why Mercedes gets a dance while Porsche and BMW are just left out in the cold? Although the latter two are German automobiles not named after Spanish ladies, it may not have occurred to the Spanish writer de Cervantes, nor to the Russian adapter Petipa. Or was he being petty, Pa? 🧀😬 I was certainly smiling the whole way through this video, which I am going to have to watch several more times to really hammer it home! Not only is this ballet a masterpiece, your explanation of it is absolutely priceless! Reading plot summaries of ballets online is dry and tedious. 😑 Thank goodness for Ballet Reign!! 🙏😍🩰🐴🗡️🛡️💕🌸🌹🎉🎆
@katherinec27598 ай бұрын
The horse is almost certainly rented from one of several companies that specifically train animals for stage/screen acting. If the horse poops on stage, they will presumably clean it up, but they will also probably ask for a partial refund.

The one thing that really pisses me off about this ballet is that is set in effing BCN when the wedding of Quiteria and Basilio in the book takes place in, you guessed it, La Mancha, which is a completely different region of Spain. Sometimes I truly wonder why foreigners have this unexplainable obsession with BCN. It's not even close to being the most interesting, entertaining or beautiful city in Spain. Not by a long shot. And that's leaving politics out of the equation, cause that's a can of worms that doesn't belong here.
