Lyrics Wham bam thank you ma'm I'll be on my way thank you but no thank you not today First thing is matrimony next thing is alimony Wham bam thank you ma'm I'll be on my way I'm just too young to get married you see there's too many places that I'd rather be There's a lotta other fishes in the deep blue sea So wham bam thank you ma'm that's not for me Wham bam thank you ma'm... I'm not the kinda guy to buy a ring I'm afraid of weddin' bells and rice and things I'm just too restless I'll never settle down So wham bam thank you ma'm I'll see you around Wham bam thank you ma'm...

Hidden? Hardly. But I'd guess you're probably young enough that you didn't grow listening to them. But at least you are now! Some things are priceless.

And without a doubt the only person in human history with a smile as infectious as his you can tell he loves what he's doing and you don't come across a lot of artists like that anymore Don Rich was very overlooked and I honestly think that's a tragedy cuz Don Rich is a brilliant guitarist he's a brilliant fiddle player and he's just a genuinely awesome person.

My grandpa has a lot of great stories from back in the day. He and Don Rich were drinkin' buddies for a while. Lot's of photos and great stories with them
@ShotOfSelf3 жыл бұрын
Would you share one of those stories? Don is one of the reasons I bought a Telecaster and those little teardrop guitar picks, learned Chaparall right away. He had a very light touch. -Edit- Actually I bought those little heavy teardrops because of Danny Gatton, another influence. The Fender thins were what Don used, heh.

@@ShotOfSelf So the story I remember best is after he'd known Don for a few years. Went to a bar to see him play and after the show ended, they sat around drinking and playing cards for a bit. Buck Owens was there and when they invited him to have a drink, Buck basically told them to fuck off and insulted my grandfather. So kind as could be my grandpa stood up and tried to punch Buck in the face. He missed, fell over, and broke his nose on the ground. Buck helped him up, got him some tissues for his nose, apologized for the insult, and had a few beers with em. Story isn't all there because there's a few details I don't remember, but I'll ask my grandpa about it soon and see what I'm missing and post an update if there's one warranted.

After finishing work at Owens' Bakersfield studio on July 17, 1974, Rich was killed in a motorcycle accident. He had been en route to join his family for vacation on the central coast of California. For unknown reasons, his motorcycle hit a center divider on northbound Highway 1 at Yerba Buena Street in Morro Bay.

Ever since I read the "Happy Hooker" while in high school, that term wham bam, thank you ma'am has a totally different meaning to me. HAHAHAHAHAHA! I was never a country music fan EVER until the 80's and then I stopped and still don't like it now, but, I was watching a thing on PBS about Country Music, and its got me enthralled and I've been listening to stuff I wouldn't be caught dead listening to before, and one of them was Buck Owens. I know that this was his partner, but, always wondered what he sounded like as a solo. So glad I stumbled on him singing solo. Too bad he died so young.

Did Rich use Flat-wound strings. How did he get that sound? I had a year 2017 Fender Telecaster and 1979 Stratocaster with a 1960s Fender Tube amp and I could quite get that sound that he has. They sound like Flat-wounds and he's tuned down half a step.
@ShotOfSelf3 жыл бұрын
He used Ernie Ball 9-gauge strings and Fender 351 thin picks. I've always used heavy tortex picks but with the Fender's and a light touch, you can get real close. Couldn't believe how much difference the pick made.
