I'm not sure I would define Don Rickles as the epitome of comedy. He was largely unique. It's not like he spawned generations and a plethora of insult comics (perhaps he spawned a dog).

I remember as a kid in the 70's I would wake up at night with my dad laughing loudly from the living room. One night I was curious as to what could be making my dad laugh. Now my pop didn't laugh very much, so I had to see. I crept out into the hallway and peeked around at the TV. There was Don Rickles on the Tonight Show throwing insults at Johnny, Ed, and Doc. Rest in Peace Don.

Don Rickles has got to be the most genius and legendary comic of all time! The way he delivers those lines is just fuckin BRILLIANT! And even tho his main thing is insults, the reason nobody ever really gets mad about him is because you can tell he's just doing it to make you laugh and when he's not insulting anyone, he's a genuinely a really sweet guy. @mikehike596 6 жыл бұрын
I didn't take Roman14032's comment literally; I believe he was alluding to Sinatra as a powerful force one would have needed to think twice before offending. Yet if you want to get to _mano a mano,_ it seemed to me Sinatra could have held his own, particularly after his "skinny" period, toward the late 1950s-1960s. That is, he wasn't so "tiny," but - here is what a Google search said about his height: _"Around 68% of the adult male population are within 3 inches"_ of Frank, _"falling within the typical range for an adult male.”_ Frank was a bit taller than Rickles, and also James Cagney. Everything is relative. .
@TheRelger

Mike Hike, Frank was a big shot yes but never known for being a tough guy. He’d punch the odd guy but always had his body guard around. I love Frank, not putting him down at all.

Rickles was a Taurus like myself and quick wit that landed on target most of the time with anyone or anything he talked about! 60 years in Show Biz! ...I loved him the best on CARSON! I am 54 now and was still too young to see the late 60's stuff, but Don got better with age! I loved how he'd say how laid back his wife was! They had a son .( Larry) who passed at just 41 some 10+ years ago....God bless Don Rickles for all the JOY he truly brought us all !! He always ended his shtick' with love! Hall of Fame entertainer !!

I used to take his talent for granted but realised there was no one like him.

I barely came to know about Don Rickles about two months ago, and it is great shame to see him pass away. I am not a religious person, nor do I believe in God, but if heaven is a real thing; Rickles deserves to be there.
