I love this and I grew up believing I was native because it was he only thing I knew about my dad, and I was extremely abused. I still have seizures and tics from my abuse. When I finally met my dad in my twenties he claimed we werent, but I found out from his sister we were. My great grandad was full and lived on the reservation. I studied all I could before I met my father so I knew of all the injustice. I read many books and went to native studies at Berkeley. I cried and was horrified at all I learned. I taught myself loom beadwork. But I never wanted to be some white interloper claiming distant blood . the only thing I wanted was a feeling of belonging and finally I realized I will never have that. I'm okay with that now. I went to standing rock but I went with people that didn't want to stay and my disorder from my abuse prevents me from staying for now on my own. But I will continue to support in other ways. I post and listen. I live in SF. I just got back from standing rock an hour ago. This music is amazing and fills me with hope. It's a balm to my heart and a blessing. I feel lucky to have been able to go to Standing Rock. I have wished I had more native blood since I found out from my aunt that it wasn't as much as I believed when I was growing up. I met my dad and my aunt in my twenties. But my heart is and always has been Native American. I know things have gotten serious and I will probably return when I can figure something out .

I am Maori from New Zealand, we see things a little differently here. We believe that even if you have one drop of Maori blood you are Maori. No one can deny that have native ancestry. You do belong, you belong to your great grandfather and belongs to his tribe, you belong to the earth, you belong to the sky.
