I’m in my phd program and I was seeing someone else also in their phd program. I thought I could understand that person better than anyone because we’re both truly busy and constantly overwhelmed with school. When we first started out, we talked very consistently and he even said he wanted to spend more time with me. Then suddenly, he ghosted me. Nothing really changed, we were both still dealing with school and I was even planning a summer internship but still had time to send a text that would get ignored. But then I realized he wasn’t too busy to send a text but he was just too busy to make time **for me** (aka he couldn’t be more disinterested in me)

Sad to hear. It would be nice if disinterested parties just communicate instead of just ghosting. That’s just disrespectful. I’m having the same situation right now so I can sympathize.

@@Pjvm550thanks for the sympathy! sorry to hear you’re experiencing the same :( I so wish he could have just said “I’m no longer interested in pursuing this”. Would have saved me so much time and uncertainty. I did reach out to him recently for clarification and he finally apologized for not being more communicative. It was kind of a canned apology but at least it’s something that I can get closure from. I hope you can find closure too even if it’s not from the person themselves

The main indicator to me, whether it's about friends or a potential partner: If they cancel on short notice, which can happen once in a while, do they come up with serious suggestions when to meet instead, and not "some time next week" or even "can't tell yet"?
