I see the problem with their kit. Normal borax based slime requires a basic environment to become slime (thats why people put baking soda and then contact lens solution etc) but to make a slime fizzy, you have to add some amount of acid to it. But then the slime wont form. The other way of making slime instead of using borax is to use to Sodium based salt. Table salt works but very poorly. Washing soda works pretty nicely. So what I speculate is that they put another sodium based salt as the "activator" and the baking soda and the other powder were basically an acid and a base to make the solution fizz. However with sodium salt slimes, the slime hardens over time, in about an hour or so. And thats what happened eventually. Its a good idea, but just not chemically possible xD

Sodium tetraborate is the ingredient in borax that activates slime. Mix that with school glue and it should make slime

Okay, so if it's okay for me to note this, as far as I know, part of the love of the slime comes from the community of those with various sensory processing issues and those who use stim/fidget toys, for a variety of reasons (like to help us deal with our surroundings or to help us focus, keep us calm, for fun, etc). Of course thats also part of the reason there's such a wide variety of slimes, like bubblegum slime or cloud slime, or any of the other dozens; we all have different textures we do and don't like, so there's essentially a slime for everyone :) i could be wrong, this is just based off of my experiences, but i hope this is helpful, or at least not annoying!

My daughter received a couple of slime kits from Five Below (which I assume is where this is from since the name is fairly similar) and was able to make a ton more slime by adding some of her own school glue and glitter with the left over activator powder. I do have to say that even though you may have to use your own supplies, she got to make a lot of slime for basically $5. The other plus, I was actually able to keep my laundry detergent for, you know....laundry. (She uses it for activator.)
