if you're a "less than rich" student learning 3D or Davinci Fusion would you really run out and buy a new super-pumped computer to learn on? Seems like this would be a valid option. You wouldn't just buy a house to live in while in college, knowing you would be moving to new city for work after graduating..

@@WhySoLoud yeah....you would buy a house because a mortgage can be half of rent. On top of that you could sub lease rooms to other students or friends and possibly live without spending your own money.... also, the whole time you'd be buying and growing equity. That you could either sell for higher or keep renting to others if and when you move. That said... this shadow service makes a lot of sense. You're lil analogy just sucked.

Hi Hands On CNC, thank you so much for putting this tip out there, I'll give that a try one of these days. However, I still need to upgrade from my current crap laptop. Given that you mentioned the XPS, do you know the DELL G5? would you mind speculating whether it would be good for fusion? Intel i7, 6 cores, up to 3.9GHZ, 8or16GBRAM, NVIDIA GeForce 1050 4GB.

If you cant afford it, then you most likely fall into the personal license option which is free. Stuff like Solidworks which is usually standard for most work environments has no such option and makes the license for fusion look like pocket change in comparison (its something like 3.9k with a annual up keep of 1.2k USD). Which is why most people using it for personal use or education generally just pirate it.

yah, this video is fairly old.. still have and love my Shadow though... I am even running my Oculus Quest 2 via Virtual Desktop against it.. little leggy but super fun :-)

Pointless, you need laptop/desktop to run this anyways and internet connection

The point is that you don't need to upgrade a current machine... The local machine can be trivial in comparison (no dedicated video card, middle of the road budget processor, 4GB of ram, etc..)... But yes, you need an internet connection (like Fusion or OnShape) and you need a mouse, keyboard, monitor, and minimal processing unit of some kind in order to use the service.

I clocked 20gb of ram on fusion 360 last night on 1 start night. I've got 128gb 3600mhz ram running at 3733mhz I'm running a 10900k at 5.4ghz on all 10 cores. In my settings in fusion I'm using all 10 cores. I've hit all 10 cores at 100% once... I'm running a water-cooled 2060 graphics card. It's running 10% higher than standard clocks... I get no issues... I've tried shadow servers. Their computers can't do my work. For simple cad I use a $150usd laptop. I'm doing cam with millions of triangles in the meshes. Their machines cannot keep up with what I do.

Sry man but can i ask u a question i have a laptop with a i7 11370h 16gb ram and rtx 3060 but when i try to extrude like an svg with above 300 selection fusion 360 is not responding does buying a 3000$ desktop computer while help a lot ?
