Welcome back. Question from Bimini heading towards Exumas what’s a good first stop for a 7 knt boat hoping to travel daylight only
@SearchingforCShels2 жыл бұрын
It will be difficult at 7 knots to make the passage all the way in daylight. I'd suggest leaving Bimini just before sunrise, you may then arrive at Great Harbour Cay or Chubb Cay after sunset, but you may still have light. The other alternative that people do is stop at Mackie Shoal, which is about 1/2 the way from Bimini to The Berries. It is an open water/in the middle of nowhere anchorage that needs really fine weather. Hope this helps. Let us know if we can help further. Cheers!

Hey thanks for doing this piece on the High Field and how you carry it. I remember when you bought it and there wasn't much of a video review (i think) that said when I saw both you and Cindy hauling that boat up manually I thought to myself. Shoot, I would have a winch on that asap. Glad you did it and thanks for the info on how you did it and what to watch out for. Especially the davit ripping out.
@SearchingforCShels2 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome. Yes, the winch was a must, especially with that heavier dinghy. We should have installed one long ago.

Boy, glad to see you folks again. I hope the engine gets sorted out and fixed with minimal cost and little hassle. Best of luck to you. Your early videos got me hooked. As an American, the Gananaoque/Kingston area have a special place in my heart as my parents vacationed in the area and I have taken my family there several times. The Mrs. particularly likes the Gananoque Inn. I also hope to visit the Bahamas (bucket list). Fair seas to you both, and may the wind always be at your back.

Very happy to see you back on KZbin. I wondered if you were hanging in the Bahamas all that time. Bimini is a small island to stay for three months -- did you go over the the main island frequently? How is the big Genting resort doing? Genting has been in financial trouble lately -- I believe their fleet of Ocean Liners was shut down and may have been auctioned off due to unpaid bills.

From one American to a Canadian. You have a pretty Canadian flag. Thanks for showing your love of country. P.S. thanks for sharing. P.S.S. fix the hole in your flag... See you next time.
@SearchingforCShels2 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to keep ahead of the flag replacements in the Bahamas in Winter. The wind blows so much, a new flag can be torn in a week. We didn't even know the flag was torn until we watched the video. We have a collection of new flags onboard for our Bahama winters. Sorry we didn't get to replacing before filming.

We are looking at a Highfield 310 dinghy to replace our Plastimo inflatable floor model. I’m thinking the ride and getting on plane will be better. Do you find the ride harsh in chop? The inflatable bends and flexes to the wave action, but with the aluminum floor, there may not be much give. What do you think?
@mikehortin99642 жыл бұрын
Your new Highfield and Davit mods look great. Have the winch Anderson plugs held up to sea spray with out corrosion or conductivity issues? Did you have to add any insulating or protective sprays? Thx.

Thanks. No issues so far. Dielectric grease on the connections, and I have that canvas cover that goes over it.

Careful with cell phone GPS on a boat. Most phones are not very readable at all in bright light and you will always get overheating and phone shutting down issues. Not just when it's charging even if it's not charging and sitting in the sun it will shut down.
@SearchingforCShels2 жыл бұрын
We have found our iPhones and iPads to be fairly decent for the job. Yes, you are correct about the bright light, but we can usually see it. We have had the overheat issue happen a few times as well. Given the exposure to the elements in the dinghy, we are leaning toward an in-dash garmin marine unit.

Cyndi....the Bimini Big Game impossible burger. Is that a veggie burger? Or were you having a beef burger???
@SearchingforCShels2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is a veggie burger. Hard to get in the Bahamas.

@@SearchingforCShels ah....it looked like a non-veggie burger. If I'm ever in the area, even though I'm not a vegetarian, I will order the Big Game Veggie Burger and think of you. :-) I happen to actually like veggie burgers, I should order them more often. :-)
