I had a friend many years back (online friend, didn't know them irl) who I knew very little about personally. I knew her name and that she moved to a different country within the last couple of years. I had also paid for one month of her subscription. One day she asked if she could borrow ~50m for equipment so that she could complete a quest and get her quest cape back after a new one was released, I wasn't fond of the idea but decided to trust her with it and she said she would give it back the next day. 3 days pass and I don't even see her log into the game. 50m was probably about 80% of my bank so I was worried and I recovered her account with only the information that I have mentioned in this post. Account recovery is a joke of a system.

It really depends on who you buy from and their interests and how they made it. For example buying an account from another player is very risky and shouldn't be done, if you buy it from a gold site that trains all their own accounts, no interest in the game and makes 100s of them then the chances of them recovering is low, the biggest risk is if they keep the details on record and a rouge staff member tries to steel it back. For instance you can buy a maxed mellee account (sometimes called Stakers) for 75USD, these are normally trained by NMZ, sometimes by hand, sometimes bot, ultimately they have so many accounts and a reputation to up-hold the chances are low, you also have the benefit of buying an account with an unregistered email, often that email doesn't even exist so you can even create the email they made it on and you know you have the original password because you can't change the pass unless you register the email. I've bought three accounts like this and had 0 problems. I always get location, creation date, date of last login (to emulate moving country), DOB used, alsorts, sure they could claim it back but it's highly unlikely. When I was banned I purchased a maxed mellee staker 99 att/str/def/hp, for 75USD, when I checked with Hanns it worked out I paid about 10 cents an hour for it, this would have taken me 1-2 years to achieve since i'm not very efficent. You just need to be smart about it.

Some kid who I'd been nice to and helped out with a small gift had the nerve to keep asking me for more until he finally asked if I had any accounts he could use because his wasn't "good enough". I agreed to let him have my old main, which is an inactive account. saw this as i scrolled by, so when ur selling an account they buyer will always ask you (upon selling) to switch emails and recovery emails and everything to do with the account to cover all possible bases to ensure that the seller doesnt scam/ or steal back sold account, if you bought an account and the account gets recovered and cleared itd highly be likely that it was the buisness/person fault not the previous owner/maker of the account. you have to use trusted websites, ones friends and friends of friends and mutual friends, and friends of friends of mutual friends and their friends and their families friends say its a trust worthy account, only when everyone agrees, if u ask in game(if u dont get the ban hammer) even if theres 1 random that says "dont do it, its a scam" its most likely a scam. in other words, dont sell ur account or buy and if u do try and buy/sell to friends and people u kno irl, so u can confront them later if necessary :D (in my case i sold one to my brother, 800$ in my pocket and he got one of my maxed secondary accs) dont be foolish, and openly trusting and u Dont get scammed.

I bought an account two years ago, all it had was 60 str (OSRS) because I wanted to try PK again after coming back to rs and didn't want to train myself. Then I got bored and a year later I almost maxed it out, then I quit for a month. After that one month I wanted to check if I had anything to give away to my friends, I discovered the account was recovered. I had 2 steps authentication and everything, so yes, original creator can recover the account at any time no matter what. Wasn't mad though since I did quit after all.

Dont know why people are commenting on which of the two versions of runescape are better, each have good things, for example 07scape can be played on a rotten potato with its 1830's graphics and is so afk that you can gain whilst not even playing, whilst rs3 has 10x the content to play with far better in-game sounds and graphics. 07 has the benefit of an aids community to keep you on your toes whilst rs3 is packed with friendly clans. I especially love the repetitive combat of 07 where all i need do is get best in slot and then attack especially compared to the obviously inferior method of rs3 where you think about how to best battle your opponent. Therefore each games have benefits and lets not try to claim rs3 is clearly superior because they are both good.

I was given an account by someone I met on a RSPS about 8 years ago, who, sometime after (maybe a couple months) asked if he could start playing again. Obviously because he gave me the account for free I had no qualms with it. To this date, we're now pretty good friends (I'm from Scotland and he's from England and we've never actually met) and we still share the same account, including several others - alongside several other games/websites details. It's not all doom and gloom. (I feel like this reads like a love story. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but it's true) But yes.. even if you have 100% of all details, the original owner only needs to prove they made the account (they don't even need to have played) then they can recover it.

I always played f2p since I didn't have any money, and eventually he changed my name and after he gained membership, I was never able to recover my account again, sucks JAGEX was looking into their pockets instead of the welfare of the account creator saddens me even to this day.

I had something similar happen to me... I never bought the account though, I had a 5 year old account with over a year of game play that i played all of it. Never shared my info never put my info on a third party or saved it on my computer. When I came back from being inactive about 3 months i found my account had been hacked.I recovered the account easy enough changed my password and upgraded from JAG to the more current account protection. I played for about a week checked my rs3 account nothing had been taken or changed so I checked my osrs account n I all of the sudden had 92 strength from 70 and a bunch of green dragon hide and bones..... This guy stole my account to bot on and transferred everything to his account. Even with the authenticator the hacker was able to recover my account next time i tried to log in I learned I got permabaned for botting. I never botted a day in my life cause I like to actually play the game. There was no repeal button on the rs website so I tweeted at them and got no response. So after 5 years on my account which was 2200 total n almost max combat (98 mage n range) I have to start from scratch.... I honestly don't know how this guy got my info but he did and was able to recover MY and Originally MY account

Yeah but some people don't have the time to do all that, plus some people only really like things like PvM but in order to PvM they'd need high combat skills so they just buy the account. Same thing with someone who likes PvP. Rather than making a (for example) Zerker and having to go through so many quests and leveling up skills etc they can buy the account and get straight into the action since they don't have the time. I'm not justifying buying accounts I'm just stating possible reasons people would buy accounts.

Even though I couldn't go through the standard recovery process (since I didn't have the email address) I was still able to message Jagex directly with my old info, and get the account back. The guy who hacked me even messaged me asking me how the hell I got past his email lol. was kinda amusing.

It’s Jagex being negligent on their end. They should at least have somewhere on their website dedicated to this sort of thing. Somewhere you can show screenshots and proof of purchase through third party.

This happened to my friend, he was never phished because he never goes on those accounts and his account was completely taken and we didn't know what happened. I am going to talk to him soon about if he shared information.

I bought a account on player auctions had it for two years and the guy recovered it. He just waited for me to get 126 combat. Was stupid as fuck but I learned my lesson.

Someone I know use to sell his account, wait a week, then recover it. He made around $600 Ausd doing that, and still has his account to this day.
