Dr. Russ shares his tips on not buying the wrong air gun. Unfortunately, we often don’t do the right research in finding an air rifle that meets our personal shooting needs. Before long, we have 3 or 4 air guns, shooting only the 4th, while still looking for a fifth. Dr. Russ lists the various priorities in having your air gun meet your needs … going beyond the favorites of just budget and esthetics. It really doesn’t matter if you purchase an air gun from Air Arms, Air Force, Avenger, Beeman’s, Benjamin, Crosman, Daisy, Diana, FX, Hatsan, Kral, Ruger, Seneca, Sheridan, Sig Sauer, and Umarex, just to name a few. Do your research and include the independent priorities found in this video.
Dr. Russ Air Rifle Adventures videos are for your educational and documentary, purposes only. Duplicating any of the activities shown in our videos, is solely done AT YOUR OWN RISK. You must treat air rifles and air pistols as REAL FIREARMS WITH REAL BULLETS IN THEM. They are very capable of harming and even KILLING YOU AND PERSONS NEAR YOU. Any and all upgrade work on air guns should be done by a qualified and insured gunsmiths. Dr Russ videos as well as KZbin will not be held liable for any injury or harm to yourself, or others within shooting range of your air gun. When attempting to duplicate any or similar activities shown in our videos, Dr. Russ Air Rifle Adventures, as well as KZbin will not be held liable for any harm done to you, others near you, or damage to your air guns. Dr Russ, I am jealous of you and your backyard because of the same items you are discussing on today's video. I live in a subdivision on a lot that is 80 feet by 155 feet. Lately my neighbor's have been getting harder and harder to get along with because of all the BS about gun ownership. I am getting tired of having to talk with the police just about everytime I go out onto the deck to shoot at my targets in the backyard. I hate BB guns as a 75 year old man I have a Benjamin Akela which I love but now the police hate it in my town. Keep educating us Dr Russ.

Good to hear from you John Klenzak ... using our air guns in a friendly back yard environment is a challenge. Sometimes you have to look at different aspects of being a neighbor ... as I often use my snow blower to clean a neighbors driveway during the winter... or in some other way,.... prove that I am a good friend to have as a neighbor.... then be good as an airgun neighbor too. consider shooting inside your home thru a window to your outside range... out of sight ... out of mind. I do that too.... Dr.Russ

Without watching the vid, I wish to make my view regards accuracy. Trigger pull has an effect on accuracy. The harder the force required, the less accuracy. Your mileage may vary, but, I think shooting beyond 50-75 yards might be better with something like the "set trigger" system. Barring that, a 3.5 to 5 pound pull may be desirable. Am I wrong? Why?
@russjones6497
@russjones6497 3 жыл бұрын
Andy Panda ... thanks for your comment and question.... Trigger pull is very important ... Several of my videos suggest that holding a pencil and pulling your trigger straight back with a pencil would be ideal for accuracy ... since that is not usual ... it still can be accomplished by training your finger to act like a pencil... Not gonna lie, I was worried when I first found your channel and I started watching all your episodes that I might not have purchased the right gun. I was very happy to see your reviews and thoughts on my Gamo model, and I am glad I purchased the right gun for my needs. I love your videos, and I plan on going through all of your “are you a good air gunner” videos this weekend. I enjoy them tremendously. I like your entrepreneur business model in this video also! It sucks that I live in California and I’m almost certain that business wouldn’t work here. I’m definitely going to look into it though. I had critters coming onto my property harassing and attacking my cats. And my cats are not aggressive cats at all, they literally make friends with squirrels 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣 so it would be nice to help other people protect their fur babies from predators as well.

Good video Dr. Russ, please, try to improve the audio. In my case, I bought a local PCP, with a hand pump some years ago. It tired me, because of the poor quality, it didn't retain preassure and I was pumping like a slave each four shots. I feel like you under estimated the cost of air, unless you want to hand pump. The more you have to hand pump, the less you shoot. After playing with .22 Ruger products, we are having fun with the air toys. Don't have brass casings flinging everywhere is a bonus in this shooting hobby. Looking forward to your big bore review.

I have three break-barrels (.177, .22, .25), and I'm finally getting my first PCP. I have narrowed down my choice between the Umarex Gauntlet and the Air Venturi Avenger and I would prefer the .25 caliber. I would like to know your recommendation. This would be for backyard plinking, varmint control, and small game hunting. I'm looking for the more silent out of the box to remain a good neighbor (willing to add a moderator if necessary), and the most "pump friendly" as that will have to be my air source until I can afford to upgrade that resource. Dr. Ross. Check the laws in your locality. Consult with a lawyer who is licensed to practice law in your locality. I live in California. I can shoot pests, for free, on private property, with an airgun, not with a gunpowder gun. However, if I charge for that service, I either have to possess a California Agricultural Pest Control Operator's license, or a California Field Apicator's license, which will allow me to work for another California Agricultural Pest Control Operator, but not to have my own company. Be careful about what you're telling people that they can legally do.

Long Live Humanity ... our viewers really need to go directly to their States DNR to get their hunting rules..... Even the simple notes that Pyramyd Air and Air Gun Mega store have on their websites.... don't effectively describe the defining legal terms ... for example some states have counties where the rules change ... different bird shot for turkeys ... the list goes on. Even retail clerks at stores probably cant answer the questions correctly when asked about powder or air guns.... This leaves the burden on the hunters and the conservation officers. Thanks for bringing this short coming to light... Dr. Russ

@@russjones6497 Hi, Russ. You offer good advice about hunting laws. If I may clarify my earlier meaning, I wasn't talking about hunting. When you charge money for removal of a pest problem, then you're not hunting. You're doing pest control, and in California, you must do pest control under the jurisdiction of a Pest Control Operator's license. If you don't charge money, then the activity falls under the jurisdiction of hunting laws.

Dr Russ, The more I learn about air guns, the more confused I am. I need an inexpensive air gun that is accurate to shoot skunks and armadillos in my yard at night to about 25-30 yards max. What fps rating do I need to be accurate at this range? Also, can you recommend a lesser expensive scope I can use at night. I will only be using this gun for two things: First to learn how to use it and become accurate, then occasionally I will need to shoot it at night for these varmints. I don't plan to set up targets and plink. Lastly, which .177 grain ammo should I buy to be the most accurate? Jim
@russjones6497
@russjones6497 2 жыл бұрын
Jim ... it is good to hear from you... and I believe you need a good air gun to accomplish the task before you. You will never get good optics especially ones that will enlighten the target at early dusk and dawn... you need good optics and I plan to share an excellent source within two weeks... but again they wont get any better than I described. For your problem, you need night vision equipment and scope that costs well over $600....or best still is throwing on an outside back yard light at the last moment. Secondly, you are after skunks and armadillos ... and a 177 caliber will wound more than kill... I suggest you step up to a 25 caliber for those destructive critters. If you have coyote or woodchucks, I think you need to step up to a 357 caliber. Consider purchasing a refurbished air gun to get the best bang for your buck... I have a video for that subject ... which has several choices to review... . Be sure to watch my video on "Buying the right caliber" which includes their ranges and the critters that they will harvest. Click on the small circular photo of myself to access our channel of almost 90 videos ... and scan them for the videos I reference. Now to ammo... accuracy comes with a smooth barrel that has been leaded in (meaning that 100 to 500 lead pellets need to be fired first to fill in the small craters and scarred rifling that is only visible with a microscope. Secondly, you need a heavy lead pellet for accuracy ... and some bullet or pellet lube for velocity... be sure you watch my videos on that topic so that you do it right. The larger calibers will allow you to go for a body shot kill versus a smaller head shot kill. Jim, keep us in your air gun info loop ...and let us know how you progress towards your goals...
