Having social media is so hard for an artists. You need it to build up a following, a career, to be inspired and to keep on creating but at the same time you also doom scroll and it’s this constant depressing cycle where you don’t know if it’s worth it to leave or to stay because you need it and you want it

If you’re a creative and need social media for marketing/etc., maybe it’s time to separate your art accounts from your personal accounts? Many people I know benefitted from it. If you’ve already done this and still feel shitty about social media/don’t see your habits changing, it’s time to delete your social media and use it solely for business.

I have been off all social media for over 2 years now, my only exception is youtube occasionally. It almost kills me to be around people who are constantly on their phones scrolling, it is what we have come to lol. But I have noticed so many improvements since then which is why I recommend everyone should try stay off social media too: - I have more time to do things I like and to look after myself (reading, studying, meeting people etc.) - I also don't feel disappointed with what I am doing in life anymore. Comparison with celebs or even mutuals is always the thief of joy. - No more fake stuff, in the real world it's all REAL! - I don't fall prey to pointless trends on social media or have the feeling of "missing out" on something. - I feel more authentic as a person, less like I am regurgitating things I saw online. Your video makes me feel less alone in being offline, so thank you!

I don't have any on my phone anymore but my computer has it and I will occasionally hop on for maybe a minute before realising theres no point. I also watch youtube, maybe because I'm still at school but I don't know.) and I feel all the stuff that you do. You would also feel the same way but I feel like without socials you see more of the world y'know? like on my school bus I like to look out the window and just think about life and I will sometimes see something cool or interesting and I'm usually one of the only ones who DO notice. I'm still struggling with some issues in this field and I honestly wouldn't mind if I did stop it all altogether (would video games count? I hope not, I love them.) I think it would make things better. I'd also love it if the world followed the same path but I don't really see that happening.

Not counting time spent on KZbin Music, which varies wildly depending on my daily activities, I went from 6-7h PER DAY on my phone to just 1h45 in the first week. This week, my average was 3h35 including YT Music, which probably amounts to about 2h, a slight increase but far better than before. This video only goes to reaffirm that making the changes I did were a step in the right direction, for my mental health and clarity, for my personal relationships, and for my free time spent doing more productive things than doom scrolling. Ya just delete it. It doesn't matter. Most things people post online are pointless anyway and no number of restrictions ever kept me away from the endless scrolling and "relaxing" dopamine hits I would get when using the app. I finally made the decision to switch to a flip phone and delete my account. I don't feel like I am missing out on some random thing that seems important to invest time into just to seem relevant. It's quite ironic that we need some type of disconnection from our own reality to seem "relevant" in conversation. Also I agree that if the people you follow, you don't have their phone number, then what is the point. If you don't actually want to talk to them then why do you feel the need to follow them at all? Anyway, just wanted to rant, this was a great and very open video about the struggles of a weird reality that we created for ourselves.

I follow friends, family and event pages in my area to know what's going on in my city and it's SO incredibly helpful. For other social media apps, I deleted Twitter and only follow the things I'm interested in on Reddit (fitness, language/culture, food stuff and other hobbies.) It's cut my screen time in half. I am finding myself reading more, focusing on the shows I am watching instead of needing to have Netflix up + Insta or some other thing. Going outside more often and getting stuff done around my house instead of feeling like I'm physically unable to tear my eyes away from my phone. I'm more social because I see what my friends are posting more often and it makes me want to talk to them, I could go on and on. All in all my attention span is slowly returning, I'm not anxious when I'm not doing several things at once, and I feel SO much better.

its crazy that this video got recommended to me since i decided to quit instagram in the beginning of the year and its almost over, my reason for quitting was that i realized when i went to shows, concerts, parties, get togethers and stuff i was always the one with their phone in their hand. Constantly recording or taking pictures then when i think back about how it went all i remember was just seeing it through my phone not even living my life anymore. Eventually i decided to ask my friends how they do it (where they dont post or some dont even have an account) where its not on their mind. some helped some didnt but i decided on just taking break for a week then before i knew it the week was over, then decided if i could go a week i could go a month which i did then turned into 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 months. i wont lie i did start posting again (like a grandpa as the video says) like once a month now so mainly only things i find interesting or experience no longer shit posting, sharing posts, memes. might not be for everyone but im glad it worked for me.

Alright I have a similar take on this. So I follow celebs but surprisingly I don't feel sad that I don't live their lives so I have a slight different way of using social media. 1. Find out what accounts make you use Instagram depressed: It could even be a friend, or a ex-crush. So I have a friend that went to study at my dream university that I couldn't enter. Also following my ex-crush, same thing we are close but she posts Bout her relationships often 2. Use the mute function following them was a pain cuz I'd feel depressed that I was not as good. Even though I'm quite close to them I still chose to mute posts so I don't see her post about them and I generally feel better.
@tristansaucedoyt Жыл бұрын

You can start a step earlier by not getting bored in the first place.. Boredom only exists because people don’t know what to do with themselves imo.

Also, Don't post too many stories or pics of yourself reasons being 1. Your privacy is not respected online, people can misuse them. 2. The anxiety related to validation from others will also greatly reduce. Next, do the same with all of your other social media platforms like X, snapchat, etc. My personal opinion is to delete snapchat account. You don't need to know what's going on in someone else’s life.

First Video I saw from you. The fact that my algorithm recommended this should make me think about my Instagram habits lol. Very well done Video. It was perfectly paced, I never felt bored throughout the Video. The tips in general were a little bit too radical for me, but a good starting point to create my own new habits. I really liked the Intro of you making a tea in jumpcuts while the music was playing and the title was showing. It really made me focus on the topic afterwards. Keep on going. I saw you getting like 30 subscribers overnight (In Europe) so keep on going!!🎉

From my personal experience what I learnt is if you can't take yourself out of the scrolling addiction tgen atleast mute the videos like when you are scrolling reels and you want to get out but you don't feel like stopping so then just mute the reel and continue to scroll after a few ones you ll get bored. What i have observed is it's not the visuals that keeps us hooked but the audio like the songs the background music the sound effects and those things. I have never followed any celebrity on my Instagram neither i keep alot of Stangers but still i spent a hell lot of time there that's only because of the trending section and reels. Muting the reels whole scrolling has really helped me

I liked a lot of the tips here, but what advice would you give to someone who wants to do KZbin but also needs social media for promotion and all that? I always found it difficult when people say to delete social media when if you run a business or a channel, social media is pretty paramount in its growth.

The insight from this video makes me feel grateful that I've never used insta and never will. I'm still shocked at some of my friends who wanted me to make an insta account back in 2017/18 when I asked them "what for?" And they straight up said "To like my posts". Like bro, do you not realise how you sound rn? Fuck the likes, if you went on a trip just tell me about it on literally any other platform that we share. Why do _I_ need to download another useless app? I still shake my head, thinking back to that "argument"

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been struggling with trying to cut time down with social media. Tbh I think the main reason instagram keeps me scrolling is bc they keep showing “suggested” posts/reels after every posts of someone I follow. I’ve noticed that overtime I would rack up on followers and just start following people who have interesting content and then later on do a large removal of unnecessary accounts. It’s gets annoying that they keep showing funny, creative and interesting things that appeals to me but trying to keep me on there for hours. So I’m going to try your approach and I feel like it will help me a lot in getting more important things done.

To be honest when I see people having more exciting lives than me it honestly just gives me inspiration and makes me happy. I never let it get me down because they did what they had to do to live they live they live. Instead of feeling bad about it I let it remind me to keep following my dreams :)) but I do understand not everyone thinks this way.

I’ve done a couple of ‘no social media’ months. And it thought me to not miss it when I delete it. So when I feel like it I can go a week without it, install it again, check it and delete it again. I just wish you could turn the discovery page off. And I miss the time where the feed had an end haha, I’d scroll to the end and go to sleep.

your video is the first I see that talks about this, so thank you so much! I've also been deleting and redownloading the app but I feel pressured to keep it since I'd be missing out from all of my friends. the main reason I keep on deleting Instagram is because of reels which leads me to overstimulating and I hate it so much. it's the same reason why I deleted tik tok early on but to see that other apps like instagram to copy tik tok makes it so much worse. I'd be checking one reel and it'd ended up me watching countless reels for hours on end without me realizing bc I feel like I've been hypnotized. I have no time to spend on other things that are actually important because of doom scrolling. although now I'm trying not to delete it just bc of one feature and manage it better since I still need it to get updated on my friends' and love ones lives. so thank you for the helpful tips, it's comforting to know that I'm not alone :]

I dont use insta for social. I use it for inspiration, i dont follow friends, only follow people that i find interesting and truly want them to be on my feed. That helps me to be more mindful and engage with the content I view, not constantly comparing my self to friends and other people.
@alenahloba9729 Жыл бұрын
Great video!! I'll also share my tips here. I myself recently have started to cut Instagram off since I spent hours there without noticing. What really worked for me is setting a limit in Screen Time app on iPhone for 20 minutes a day, and then when you want to prolong it, you need to enter a passcode which is one more obstacle for me. Most of the times, it keeps me out of the app. What also worked is just learning to be more mindful of my time. Where do I spend it? Where do I pour my attention? Could I do more things I like (like painting, playing piano, reading, cooking, spending time with friends) instead of scrolling? I recently realized that I don't have enough time to go to every party or event I'm invited to, so I started to be more mindful about how I spend my time. Try these two hacks, and maybe they will work for you, too!

one thing i can say is that you don't specifically need to delete/deactivate your social media account. you can use browser version. they are not so pretty looking, not so fast and probably you just going to be lazy opening the website every time, so you won't be using it as much. one more thing is if you really need to use that social media, like look up for some restaurant or anything like that, you still going to have your account. after i started using social media from browser, i started using the same instagram like once in a couple of days to reply to some of my friends and that's it. maybe it's gonna work for someone else as well.
