The ticking noise is common amongst all LS engines, of which the LT is a derivative. It's the pushrods moving up and down on the lifters. I've heard it referred to as a sewing machine sound and that's how I hear it. Typically most pronounced around 1500 to 2000 rpm. It on it's own is not necessarily a sign of anything beginning to fail, but it does drive my Dad, who has an acute sense of sound for stuff like that, crazy. When I fixed the heads in my LS7 in my C6Z, I upgraded the whole valvetrain while I was in there, to a custom ground TSP 8620 Carburized Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum steel alloy camshaft, TSP hardened pushrods, PSI valve springs, CHE bronze trunnion upgrade on the rocker arms, and Johnson 2110 lifters that GM uses on the COPO Camaro's. I think I all but eliminated any remaining LS sewing machine sound in that motor, but that of course is a little on the extreme side.

I suppose you should have two cars. One for street and one for track. Then you don’t have to change alignment.
@cassiespencer6134 Жыл бұрын
That's a very good (and wise) suggestion. Track use can be hard on cars (depending on several factors) and is even harder on tires. And tires for both the C7 (a ZR1 in my case) and the C8 are expensive and can also be hard to find depending on the time of year. I'm referring to the PS Cup2 and Cup2R.

I tried to get a track alignment on my 2023 C8, took it to a dealer in the greater Milwaukee, WI area only to get a call an hour later telling me they couldn't set the caster on the front tires because they didn't have bar, plate to attach to the "knuckle" and a digital angle meter. I couldn't believe it. Had several other dealers who told me they could do it until I asked about the bar for the knuckle and a digital angle meter. So I didn't get the track alignment but took the car to three HPDE (high performance driver education) events and had a great time. I have never driven a car on a race track so I didn't need the track alignment and I wasn't trying out for the Penske racing team :-). I did notice a small amount of tire wear, heat cycles on the outside edge of the tires after the third event that probably wouldn't be present if I would have the track alignment with 3 deg of camber on the front tires. I currently have about 2000 miles on the car.

Watched video of process to add fluid through wheel well approach. Easily done with car not tilted at all. Used fluid infuser loaded with the two quarts of transmission fluid. DIY job done in less than 30 minutes. Tire and wheel well easy to remove. Only had to wipe a couple of drops of fluid from access port when done. Not trying to second guess Chuck, but as a layperson, this seemed much easier. Yes, you do need some form of fluid infuser with appropriate length hose and fitting.

Good morning Rick and Chuck, I just took my C8 for a track alignment in a Chevy dealership. My question is when o went to pick up the car I had washers in my cup holder, I ask the mechanic why the washers where there and he told me they need to be removed for track alignment. I thought they will need to be relocated on the control arm. A feedback Will be very. Much appreciated. Thanks
@cassiespencer6134 Жыл бұрын
With regard to the C8 there are no washers or other items that need to be removed in preparation for track use. That said, the following are what GM says should be done prior to track use: !.) Return the tire pressure settings to factory (see the Tire and Loading Information label located below the door latch with the door open). 2.) Return the wheel alignment settings to factory. 3.) Replace oil (use only engine oil licensed to the dexos1TM specification of the proper SAE- viscosity grade). 4.) Replace brake fluid (DOT-4 Hydraulic Brake Fluid). 5.) Rotate the Driver Mode Selector out of Track mode. 6.} Return to production trim height.

Inaccurate btw. You can get over 2 quarts in at 10 degrees and you can do it with esco stands. The car cannot "teeter" on two stands or even just one placed at the rear. Its literally in the gm tech procedure for how youd change a tire??? The 2nd drain plug is on the side of the transmission btw so you never get under the car. I have literally never seen this done with a floor jack in the center of the car. Theres no jack point there.

I’ve been told by my local mechanic that there’s a chance that the car air bags may deploy because the car thinks you are about to roll the car like In an accident!!! What do y’all think?
@bhvrdr Жыл бұрын
Airbags don't go off from a rollover much less from jacking the car up. They go off when very specific impacts are going to happen where they would be useful such as when front end and side collision sensors are triggered. You could turn the car over and place it on its roof and they won't go off
@LS1424 Жыл бұрын
@@bhvrdr There are KZbin videos of airbags going off at track events. The 5th Gen Camaros were known for this. The car had to go into a very specific slide or yaw and the side curtain bags were deploying. No impact, but the car thought an impact or rollover was imminent.
@bhvrdr Жыл бұрын
@@LS1424 that should never ever happen though. Thats a problem. You literally have 200 Corvettes used for track only purposes at Ron Fellows Corvette school. They never leave the track and theyve never had an airbag deployment. Its something so rare you can only find a handful of stories. That said this is literally just jacking up your car 10 degrees. Its no different than the way youd change a wheel out.
@jamesstarling7273 Жыл бұрын

Hi Rick, My name is Jae. Thanks, I really enjoy your c8 podcasts. I have a '22 c8 z51. It's been my daily for about 1.5 years with almost 22k. Miles. I have 2 questions that I don't think it came across your tech Tuesday. 1. This is something I've noticed when turning sharp at a crawling speed in 2nd gear. I'm hearing a slight grinding noise from the back in 2nd gear. Definitely coming from the rear axle or transmission. I think it's from the rear axle gear. With a sharing of the lighter weight DCT oil for the rear gears, and the difference in the axle rotation is making this noise. Is this common with the rear engine DCT where lighter weight is used for both DCT and the rear axle? I know it's a compromise to use the lighter oil to protect the DCT first and the Rear gears, second. Does GM know about this issue? It doesn't make this griding noise this when I completely stop the car, and the DCT goes into the 1st. Gear. This may be something that is inherent in the DCT/gear design that maybe average drivers really doesn't know or to care about since this doesn't happen too often except when faced with a daily occurrence on their driveway. 2. Does this mean what metal particles from the rear gear are exposed to the DCT and its filters (cartridge and the pan filter) as well? I guess this issue can be fixed by recognizing the road condition and putting it in 1st. Before proceeding . However, I am concerned that this will cause a long term damage to either the DCT or the rear gear.
@JKim-hb5ry2 ай бұрын
Hi Rick, Here is one more question. Why is it necessary to run and curculte the dct oil before the dct cartridge change. Doesn't driving the car and going through the gears circulate the oil and trap the particles? Either in its pan filter or the cartridge filter.
@RickCorvetteConti2 ай бұрын
@@JKim-hb5ry I’ll save this for a future tech Tuesday - tomorrow nights already filmed thank you
