Thank you for this video. I have a Stihl wacker that I don't drop start, lucky me, but I still am happy to know why I shouldn't. I was still possibly pulling the starter rope to jerky. I have so much equipment, it's hard to keep track of how each piece starts honestly. I am interested in the fact I don't always start my chainsaw on the ground. I drop start it. You have me wondering if I should rethink my saw operation.

I've been using synthetic fuel from VP Racing to avoid the winter storage problems. However you just might need a carb rebuild to clear out any gummy deposits, that's if you happen to use ethanol blend premium gas. Another way to start the stihl for me and many people I've been told at the stihl dealer is pull without priming the carb or just prime once on a cold start. The factory instructions tend to flood the motor with to much fuel.

Another thing about easy start chainsaws (at least with my Stihl MS251C) is that you don't have to pull the starter cord all the way out to start it. For a cold saw, a gentle half pull or two (with the choke all the way out), followed by another gentle half pull or two (with the choke released) and it starts right up. I'm 68 years old; I need to take care of my rotator cuffs so this saw is a godsend for me. I highly recommend this type of saw for anybody who doesn't want to feel like they have been in a 15 round fight to get their saw started.

The older generation saws were much simpler but the new ones really are great if once one learns proper this and that about them - and I would still be struggling w/ a few things if I didn't catch Steve's channel - thanks for your help Steve I learned a lot and more than likely saved some money to. I can’t start my stihl farm boss without drop starting it. I tried using the owners manual to do it on the ground but no go. The stihl farm boss is a great chainsaw, just difficult to start for me
@brucedeveas13223 жыл бұрын
If you don’t drop start your chainsaw then you don’t do tree work on a daily basis it’s a huge difference from the people with options of what you should do and the people who actually use these tools everyday

Drop started my Stil chainsaw once. wasn't paying attention. It slipped and hit me in the feteral artery. Didn't start, but it scared me so much that I sat down on the ground for 5 minutes and reflected on life. I never did it again. Put it on the ground people. It's not worth dying - I almost did !!

I’m sure you sit down and read the owner’s manual from cover to cover when you buy a new truck too, unless your more of a Prius type of guy then it’s enough said already, lol 😂

Steve, You and I have chatted on more than one occasion, We have owned an Outdoor Power Equipment dealership for over 17yrs. I can't tell you how many times we have had customers doing that exact "drop-start" ( technique ) on so many occasions ! Even though they have been properly instructed on the correct "Easy-Start" technique numorous times ! Both on Stihl, and, Echo-Shindaiwa Equipment ! To the point of re-educating, and requesting them to sign off on the correct education of starting technique ! Yet they still continue to break the Equipment !

I am from, Germany, but I can understand what it is all about. Very helpfull, thank you a lot, mostly arborists make that mistake up in the tree, so up there you better have a saw without easy start, if i understand well,

I always thought "easy start" came in a can labeled ETHER.

My wife asked me why I threw my weed eater into the side of the garage. I toll her it was heavy to throw it all the way over it. Lol

I have a weedwacker that has a version of ez start. I never drop start it, always place on the ground and slowly pull and the spring does the work. I wish chainsaws had this. I've destroyed my right arm trying to start one. Ok not really destroy but used it enough where it hurt like hell and couldn't move it.

The E in the name means it has Easy Start m.stihlusa.com/products/chain-saws/homeowner-saws/ms181cbe/ I'm developing arthritis and I know what it's like to have an arm become less useful than it was

All my stuff is pre-easy-start. My little Stihl chainsaw has way too much compression to stop-start when cold, but I've occasionally done it when restarting. That easy-start system looks pretty cool. Thanks for your excellent videos.

Was the customer ever educated on the proper way to pull the easy start when they initially purchased the unit? If not, then informing them of the feature may have prevented the failures.
@harrygatto5 жыл бұрын
Only one thing you need to tell the customer: RTFM!
