Great tips. Don't forget #11 Tayson. Do Not put a screaming hot cooking pot on your bag it will melt...lol sorry had to be that guy..lol 👍I felt your pain when that happened. Be safe out there ✌️

Great tips Tayson. Especially the one about waking your down. I thought washing it would destroy the loft but getting the sweat, oil and dirt out makes complete sense. Thanks Nate

I was initially thinking this was going to be a video of obvious things I already knew, but I learned some new things and was reminded of some others that I was grateful for! Great list video and also good to see the somewhat underrepresented sleeping bags you guys make (quilts get all the glory these days) because I recently bought that exact bag and I love it! Thanks!!

@Outdoor Vitals QUESTION: When washing my down bag, in a front loader, is it good to use a high speed setting afterward to spin off more water before drying? I will have top loaders that spin very fast and squeeze hard against the sides, even though I'd never wash in one. My thoughts is that it would take and hour off the beating it would get in the tumble dryer.

Thanks for the tips! I stored my uncompressed down sleeping bag in my car for about a week. Is it ruined? Is there a way to get the warmth back?

I had a down bag that I slepted over 500 nights in over the course of 10 years. I always treated it as good as possible (I also used a liner 99% of the time, that I washed regularly). After 10+ years the bag was still as good as new. So I don't think it is necessary to wash a down bag very often when you treat it right and use a liner.

What kind of liner did you use? Was it breathable? Thanks.

What do you do when your down starts escaping your sleeping bag. I have mornings where my tent looks like a snow globe. What do I do to fix it

I am in the same boat.. super scared to wash it. I sleep in a liner in my bag in hopes to help keep my body oils off of my bag. However, I have had my bag a few years...only camping 2 to 3 times a year (I'm a mom with small kids and 1 sitter...can't "abuse" her services...lol) so my bag shouldn't be too dirty, but I think it's due for some love. I will wash it when ur "how to wash ur down bag" video comes out. I know there are many videos out there, but I trust u all completely, so I will wait for ur video. Ty for doing these videos!

Hey like the video, i have a down 800 + and want to know what is the longest you would have it in a compression sack , if i pack it the day before than spend 2 day traveling on plane then spend a day in the hotel than start the hike it can be 4 /5 days is that to long or what do you do when your in this spot ? thanks
@TaysonWhittaker Жыл бұрын
Your bag will be fine if you compress it for a week or so. We would just recommend giving it some time to decompress before sleeping in it at night.

@@TaysonWhittakerThat is great news. So if I am hiking, I can compress it during the day and roll it out right before going to sleep?

Have y’all thought of making a quilt that a air pad fits in a sleeve that makes it light yet is warm and has no drafts!
@TaysonWhittaker2 жыл бұрын
We have thought of it! So far, the weight of adding the extra sleeve like that is not worth the tradeoff, especially since there are so many different pads out there and it would be difficult to cater to them all.

Great video, great tips. I look after my down bag and store it in a huge bag that came with it when I'm not using it but I get a lot of feathers leaking out of it, is there some way to stop this or is it normal for down bags to shed feathers?
@TaysonWhittaker2 жыл бұрын
It is normal for a down sleeping bag to have a small level of down coming out of the bag. This can be decreased by compressing the sleeping bag slowly when putting it away to avoid air opening holes in the seams that are large enough for the down and feathers to escape from. One thing that could be a help in avoiding this is using a Nikwax Down Proof wash. This would actually coat your own bag in a hydrophobic coating causing it to become what is now known as "dridown". Besides this extra benefit, the coating may help your bag maintain more of its down causing less leakage.

Put zipper guard 'tape' under the zippers please. It's probably a heat-bonded material- it stiffens the fabric under the zipper so the zipper doesn't catch. Think iron on clear tenacious tape. It is sooo worth the weight to not have the fabric catch in the zipper, especially if you have to get out of the bag fast for some reason. It would save YOU and your customers the headaches, and since it's a fraction of an ounce, it's not going to affect the final number. I know for sure that the 2023 women's nemo disco 15 has it. They probably all do, but that's the one I know for sure does.

Came for the sleeping bag tips but fuck that how do you grow a belter of a beard 😂
@jasperdillberry4485 Жыл бұрын
Do you have any references for the idea that down takes as long to decompress as it was stored compressed for? I've never heard that before and can't find another mention of it. I'm assuming the rate of decompression wouldn't be linear so is there a threshold level of decompression that would be the 'functional' loft of the bag after compression for say, 10 hours?

There are 2 hanging loops on the bottom of the footbox. One easy method is to use a regular hanger with these loops and just hang it upside down!

How should one Dry a down bag after washing? Just hang it?
@TaysonWhittaker2 жыл бұрын
That is our recommended method, yes. After it's completely dry you can put it in the dryer NO HEAT with a few tennis balls to help it loft up and move any clumps of down that may have formed.
