As a campground host, I have encountered many sewer spills. My recommendation to campers is to connect the sewer hose end to the ground connection first and then to the RV. The RV shutoff valve often leaks and you encounter a suprise when you remove the cap. Yes you still may have a small spill as you connect the hose but you can at least direct most of the spill to the sewer. Clear caps on the RV connection will let you see if you have a potential leak situation and you can prepare for it.

Great point on the impact driver. Had a late arriving neighbor this summer who came in at 11pm and used their impact driver to lower their stabilizers. Woke us from a sound sleep and we thought the world was coming to an end!

I've given up on this one. So many RVers use the impact drivers to adjust stabilizers at all hours of the morning and evening. Not sure if they don't want to carry two cordless tools, but it is a bit inconsiderate to use them at all hours.

A wise friend told us, “don’t leave your water pump on! RV plumbing is notorious for leaking and keeping it under pressure invites surprises under your sink and everywhere else.” He turns on the pump, uses the water, and relieves pressure on the entire system when done. We leave a tiny bit of water in the kitchen line sometimes when we need just a dribble.

You know those rv park metal sewer caps? The kind that has the built in lever you push down with your foot, that then lifts the cap so you can put your sewer connection into their sewer system…..when you’re finished and you push the lever with your gloved hand so you can remove your sewer hose DON’T let the cap drop! You’ll get splattered.

Drill vs Impact- yes yes yes- say it again louder for those in the back Jared! If you “need” an impact driver to actuate your stabilizers… there is something bent or mis-aligned- they’re designed to function with a hand crank, folks just like to use a drill to save time and yes, they are SO loud- its the sound little baby stabilizers have nightmares about 😂

Here's a tip, folks, don't pump grease in your RV bearing buddies! Every couple years, depending on how many miles you tow, remove the wheels amd disassemble the bearings, clean all old grease out, inspect bearings and races, inspect and test your brakes and then repack bearings with fresh grease, also replace the grease seals. You don't want to know what happens when a bearing seizes up while towing down the freeway. Usually, the entire wheel and hub breaks off and goes screaming across the freeway towards oncoming traffic!

Wonderful if you’re physically able to wrestle those 50-100 lb wheel/tire assemblies. Many of us struggle. I’ve packed wheel bearings 60 years and those “on-board” grease fittings work just like old fashioned professional wheel bearing packers. Most people don’t even know how to manually pack a bearing (scrape at a pile of grease in your palm). Yes, tear down, and inspect everything every couple (5?) years but fill the axles (yes, takes 100+ pumps) when new, use a HAND grease gun, pay attention to the amount of pressure, and use the “bearing buddies” before every trip. Never had a trailer bearing failure in 25 years long distance RVing.

I’ve used impacts and drills for 50 years, pneumatic ones before the battery powered ones of today. Simply turning down the impact driver’s power level makes them both softer on the device you’re turning and much quieter. Using a drill at stall and spinning whatever you’re turning very fast is, IMHO much harder on equipment than using “just enough” force on an impact driver. The key to both is the right power level adjustment.

Don’t plug you water hose straight into your city water. Use a 90 degree hose fitting. Reduces the torque on you city water fitting and the hose lays flush to the side of you trailer reducing a potential tripping hazard. Cheap preventative fix.😊

Put a hose y at the water faucet so you can turn water on and off with 1/4 turn and release pressure off hose before disconnecting. This allows easy on/off to fluse faucet, hose and filter. Then fill complete hose before attaching to trailer so no air in the lines to spit all over inside. A 90 or 45 at the trailer takes a lot of pressure off trailer city fitting and hose. See people all the time hookup hose and just turn on water. Love all the good information you present.

I am looking for a good method of holding my Propane Tank. I carry one 20 lbs on my trailer and either a 20 lbs or 9 lbs in my truck bed. The truck is new, so I'm still learning how to secure it. I might try the Milk Crate for the 20 lbs and maybe modify the create (add some filler) for the 9 lbs. I'll test the strap to see if I like that method. I carry the extra propane because I have external stove and BBQ. I have a T that allows me to connect both to the tank at the same time. This is often placed 15 to 20 ft from the trailer, so the extra tank works well. It also mean I have a backup, just incase I run out of propane in one of the tanks. I primarily use the tank on the Trailer for the Hot Water. On the rarest of night the furance, as we have an electric heater that we carry with us for the cold night (6-10C - Not below freezing)

I second this statement. I have a pedestal checker device and found one once that was bad prior to hooking up to it. You don't want to find out it's bad after you have already finished setting up. Also, after arriving at a State park once with my travel trailer I set up and went to place my tire cover over my wheels when I then happen to notice that one of my tires had no tread. Like it was skinned bald. Made me realize that my tire could have exploded any moment. Spent the next week replacing all 4 tires and the spare, as they had lots of tread, but were 4-5 years old. My TPS system was none the wiser to the impending doom that awaited me if I drove probably another 50 miles or so. My tire must have separated and shredded without me noticing a few miles prior to arriving. Didn't pull any differently. I then remember running over a large rock that got kicked up under me by another truck 15 minutes prior, which must have been the last straw for that particular tire.
