I did a little bit of research on that, and apparently "but satisfaction brought it back" was added to that proverb sometime later. The original saying dates back to the 1870s (an earlier version, "Care killed the cat", dates back to the 16th century), while the "satisfaction" addition seems to have come about in the 1910s.

The way I would explain the design behind this game, is that every challenge was very well made and seems completely fair and well choreographed, while not making everything super obvious, and the reason this works is because they manage to always keep you stressed out. And while some would suggest that a sudden drop/pit of death in front of the player when they enter a new area is bad design, I'd say that the feeling of just barely surviving an unexpected cliff, can be just as tense as a monster chasing you, and its simply caused by mere floor placement. When you just stop suddenly at the edge, it makes your hair stand up at the idea you just barely survived, followed by a moment of relief. It also should double as a warning to the player that maybe they shouldn't rush when they don't know what's ahead of them. The stress is maintained by not being straightforward about whether you should move quickly or slowly, whether during a "stage" transition(navigating through doors, etc) or in a confrontation with a monster/enemy. Maybe controls could be an issue, but everything in this game seems masterfully designed. And hopefully people can see what I can imagine the developers probably intended, when it comes to those knit-picky things. When it comes down to it this game checks every box when it comes to horror, atmosphere, level design, puzzles, audio, visuals, and somehow accomplishes so much with absolutely zero dialog, enough to be compelling to the player to push through even when it gets frustrating. One last note is that it's very possible that not everyone learns the same, but that doesn't discount how good a teacher the game might be, but it's safe to say that any mistakes made are entirely due to the players lack of ability to learn from the material in front of them, or else they went into the experience with the wrong mindset. This game is obviously visually HEAVY. If anyone went into it expecting everything read out and explained, they won't be able to fully understand or appreciate the lessons, or story. It's not just this game that I sometimes am sad to see players make harsh critiques, that seem knit-picky, but it goes for all media that is not understandable on a surface level. If you say it's pretentious, then it's like calling many old world artists pretentious, when they purely needed more symbolism to convey deeper thoughts on a broader spectrum. Thank you. Lol Ps. I absolutely love this game, I dont think its the most perfect thing ever but it definitely could do a good job fooling you to think so.
