Infosec engineer here! That bit about phishing was ~99% great, except for the expectation that any phishing email won't have a real Jagex email in the "sender" field. In reality, it is *very* easy to spoof the "sender" field on an email and make it say whatever you want (including official Jagex email addresses!), to the extent that you should *never* treat the sender field (even the actual address!) as proof that an email is legitimate.

It’s insane to me that people fall for the “doubling money” scam still. I was doing Herblore at grand exchange and someone started doing that. Immediately a bunch of us there started warning people that it was a scam, and still three people said they lost their cash stack to them in the same world within 20 minutes. If someone wanted to “double money” why wouldn’t they just give away the gold? Makes no sense logically. Too many people have the “well it has to be real sometime.” No, it’s not and it won’t be.

There’s another part to the scam, where people will pose as victims saying they lost their bank to these doublers and they expect generous people to give them handouts. These handouts can be anywhere between 1k - 1m. I’ve seen it all lol it’s all a scam

Those bots are incredibly common across the board. I'm always surprised people fall for that shit... But then I remember, if the scam didn't work at least some of the time, the bots wouldn't be so pervasive. They have to have gotten at least a couple of people with it.

7:25 One of the most common items that people try to use for this scam are DIVINE attack/strength/magic/defense potions. Trade window prices will show that they are worth much, much more than their GE price.

12+ years ago as a kid i worked so hard mining essense and went to buy a rune pick from some guy and he switched it on me for a mithril pick. For a mare 20k profit, that was a big deal back then. I still remember that to this day

Thanks for the video! Wanted to warn about an Instagram paid advertisement that seemed pretty legit. The scammers were offering beta access to an HD version of OSRS, therefore asking for account information for inscription. another scam I've seen at the g.e is player will claim to double your money if you give him your gold first, the difference here tho is instead of doing only large amounts the player will do small amounts but will acutally double it to the first 5-10 people up to 1mill. The player uses this moment to gain the reactions of the players he's trading with to show that he's genuine but when everyone starts trading him all at once is when he starts taking everything real quick from everyone and then leaves.

@@jonathanavila6791 saw a account on twitch saying that boaty was quitting rs. Me dumb as heck clicked the link and gave my username and password and bank pin...(I know big dumb)and woke up the next day whole bank was gone. I hope that answers your question!

A password manager like BitWarden or LastPass can go a long way in protecting from fake sites as well. If you never type your password in but instead use the auto-fill from the password manager, it will be real clear if the site is fake, no matter how close the URL looks.

I remember back in about 2010 there was some people selling a firework-esque type item for 5,000 gold each, it seemed suspicious at the time so I walked past them and about 2 minutes later I found the vendor selling them for 50gp each

Funny thing about the item scam at the end, someone traded me antivenom mix potions trying to scam me and i felt bad because they were scammed before with them so i offered to buy all the potions for 25 gp ea (they wouldn't even sell for 1 ea on ge), and I logged in last week and sold all the potions for 1.5k ea making me mils.

Buy/sell everything on the GE, with a few exceptions. Exceptions being things that are needed in bulk. Feathers, headless arrow shafts, etc

Recently, someone came up to after I teleported Varrok square, asking me to teleport them. He then proceeded to give me a wilderness crabs teleport, saying that I could teleport him with it after pressing the break option. Obviously this send you into the wilderness where PKers are waiting to kill you with all of the equipment you happen to be wearing.

One important caveat is that players will often run into the ge buy limit, and offer to overpay players to bypass it. It's often easy to identify the difference between a legit player who needs help with ge limit, and a scammer, because of two main factors: 1) There will be a logical reason someone might want a particular item in bulk, and the buy limit is too low for that player to get that bulk on their own. Like someone is doing a lot of crafting, fletching, magic, or construction training, that player might want bulk amounts of d'hide, feathers, dart tips, planks, runes, etc. 2) It's nearly impossible to manipulate the market prices for items which are commonly traded, but it's much easier for an item that's rarely traded (like how you showed addy javelin (p) in the vid). So, if you see someone advertising to overpay for a certain item, ask yourself a few questions: "Is there a reason the player would need mass amounts of this item?", "Is there a reason the player can't buy the amounts they need off the ge alone?" and "Is this item traded often enough by enough players that they couldn't possibly be the only seller?" If you're certain all these answers are yes, then buy one of the requested item as a price check. That all being said: It's better to be safe than sorry. If you have any reason to doubt their legitimacy, then just move on. If they're legitimate, then another more experienced, wealthier player will step in to help them. If they're a scammer, they'll be out in the cold. Source: I've needed help with the oak plank buy limit for my grind to 99, and I've bought feathers for people to help their fletching grinds.

There is a scam that the scammer shows you a lot of teleports and a lot of money. He trades you a lot of tab teleports and then asks you to drop your items for a reward in cash. You have to trade him back his teleports first. When you put the tabs in trade he declines and it teleports you far away from the location you dropped your items and there is no way you get there in time to take the valuables you dropped.
