Spongebob seems to be one of the few animated shows nowadays that fully embraces its cartoon nature, without taking itself too seriously, which is what many shows do now. Keep up the excellent work SB crew!

vincent waller how much process/how many iterations does a storyboard like this take?

A lot. We take the rough storyboard into animatic, Myself, Marc and all our writers then watch it, edit it and do comic punch up to it. Then the board goes to one of our Plussing Supervising Directors and their crew. They add fun stuff, then we go back into animatic with the clean storyboard and do another comedy pass on it with the writers. Then it is ready to ship.

that's cool! did it take a while to build this system/adapt it from an older storyboard/layout paradyme?

It did, when Marc and I were put in charge of SB team, we had to rethink the entire process, in pretty much every department. It wasn't and, isn't easy. But we are blessed with some the hardest working, best drawing, writing and overall funniest crew I have had the pleasure to work with in years. That includes the amazing men and women at Rough Draft studios Korea. They have been animating SpongeBob since day one. Their resilience and and ability to evolve with us as we stretch and strengthen the world of Bikini Bottom and its inhabitants, has been remarkable.
