What I like most about Al Grey's playing is that whenever he improvises all of his solos are always happy and melodic. He's definitely one of my favorite trombone players.

True story. I even love the solos he took on his last LP, when he was like a million years old. Echos of Harlem 🔥🎺💀. I hope I’m playing like when I go.

I was fortunate to do a few gigs in my home country with the wonderful Al Grey, when I was young... and a small tour with Curtis Fuller (who appears at 2:03) a few years later. Awesome memories

Well played by Al Grey with the trombone.I never thought it could come out so beautifully with the trombone. My first choice would still be Duke Ellington Ochestra with Johnny Hodges laying with his alto sax

No one really ever thinks the trombone can sound beautiful, it's quite sad

@@estesgeorge6323 As an alto sax player myself, I actually like this version better and I wanna learn trombone because of these types of players

Is that a plumbing plunger or a purpose made plunger for the instrument?

Can anyone tell me when this was filmed? I'm thinking late '60s just because he looks like he looked then. Anyone?

It has to be after 1975. Butch Miles on drums - he didn't join until 1975.
