It’s always seemed like the indicator of how *really* talented musicians are is how they sound live without all the magic of studio tricks. These guys were amazing. I also like the MTV unplugged series. Thanks for this!

REO was legendary for their live shows so it’s no surprise they sound great here.

@@daddymidwest4111 lol @ OP mentioning unplugged when this is a recording. The whole "acoustic is real music" was a nice propaganda in the 90s. People keep repeating it.

@@gregoryduncan3067 For some reason your reply went through twice...anyway, yeah. That other song is like a Neil Sedaka vibe. Like an early 60s pop song. Btw, I had to watch Sgt. Pepper's last night. I forgot how silly it was, but I enjoyed the trip down memory lane. 😎😊

I really like the percussion on this song. I don’t know if it’s an African rhythm but that would be my guess. Anyways the more I see of REO live the more I appreciate them, and it makes me wish I’d seen them live. (I went to a lot of concerts in the 80s but mostly metal so REO wasn’t exactly on my radar back then.)

January 17, 1980… Sacramento War Memorial Auditorium. It was the Hi Infidelity tour. My buddy’s mom arranged to get us tickets (from Los Angeles as she worked for the tour company). She told us to meet up with a tour truck driver called “The Pelican” and he’d give us tickets… and they’d be “great seats”. Well, we found the Pelican. He was exactly what you would imagine! He didn’t have the tickets. (We suspected he sold them.) Instead, he walked us into the arena through the back. We were back stage. He had us promise not to tell anyone he walked us in. He told us to act like we belonged there… and he disappeared. We were two 15 year olds watching the concert from the edge of the stage! No one said a thing. After about an hour we found our way to the audience. That was my first concert. How can it be almost 45 years?

Here's the obscure rock and roll question. Who are the 2 background singers off to the right?
@WXManPhil10 ай бұрын
OK, I'm gonna go with a wild, but reasonable, guess: That's Richard Page (later of Mr Mister) of the left and Tom Kelly (songwriter who later wrote hits with Billy Steinberg). Both of them had done backing vocals on the Hi Infidelity album.
