There was this demon possessed dude who hated the fact that I actually came to work to work hard even when there was no reward for me doing so. At first we were cool then he switched up after a month or two. He would give me these evil demon eyes and just stare at me. That's crazy. Nowhere in Diablo IV or 3 or 2 you give "consent" to be serving any demons. The whole point is to kill them, defeat them. Even on Diablo IV where they somehow try to rationalize the evil of Lilith, ultimately she's still the biggest threat to mankind and she's the last boss that you have to kill. You just have to be very mindful in RPGs and Video Games in general, what it is you're doing. Because in your mind you're feeling it. One can play an RPG and be a necromantic blasphemer or be a holy knight in search of justice. Just be mindful of every choice you make in games, books, or what have you. If you act a certain way in dealing with the occult or consenting to anything not of God, then that's a problem. I'll agree GTA is inherently problematic because you don't have choice as to not be a criminal. You have to watch out for these things. It's unrealistic to raise a new christian generation expecting them to not play video games. You have to arm them with knowledge and moral values.

I very much relate to the section on video games. In my teenage years I also played horror games, such as Resident Evil, House of the Dead, and Silent Hill (the most disturbing of all). Meanwhile, I also watched many horror movies, particularly zombie movies, which actually did give me real nightmares for years. At the same time I listened to heavy metal, not really noticing the satanic-like imagery and fashion. Looking back, I can see how dangerous and perverse all this was in total. Is it any coincidence that this period marked my drift away from the Church?! Now, in my 40s, it seems so obvious. And I think now that it's a minor miracle I could ever have made it back to the Church in time to raise my children as Catholics. As a designer, I know full well there is no reason why video game makers would be unable to create a fun and popular game based on positive Christian themes and storylines. Let's pray this eventually happens--that there can be compelling media that aids in reinforcing and strengthening a society based on the Christian themes of love, forgiveness, mercy, and redemption.

What you are saying is a game's theme physically affects the player in the real world. Players "learn" from the games they play ... no longer just for entertainment. Who doesn't think satan is involved 100% with such a powerful tool of the mind? I messed around with DOOM, experimenting with multiplayer before MP really existed. After DOOM though .. the gore increased beyond what was necessary to succeed in the game. So I dumped the genre for simulation.

Fr Reehil didn't mention Mark Wahlberg and Jonathan RoumieI. Both are vocal about their faith and talk about it openly. I still believe that if your children are taught about right from wrong and the Catholic faith, they won't have a problem with the video games mentioned. I've played some of these games with my kids to see what they're about. To them, it's just another game they eventually tire of. The Contract is a tabletop game like D&D. It does seem very sketchy, and I felt uncomfortable reading about how the game is played. Another video game I find sacrileges is I Am Jesus Christ. You actually play as Jesus, fight with Satan, cure the sick, and I believe other things that are to sacrileges. The game says it teaches about who Jesus is. Idt anyone needs a game to learn about Jesus. It sounds like that spirit board designed to help ppl contact the Holy Spirit, and some say Jesus. Ppl who buy them need prays for conversion and repentance.

I think some of the people that Father Rehil speaks about who are Catholic and have Platforms such as Politicians and actors who don't live out their faith, I wonder if it's more that they never had much faith to begin with rather than they tossed away their faith. Unless someone has been taught and catechized well, brought up in a faithfull environment, and/or had their own personal conversion unto God, many people easily get catechized by the world and don't know much of their faith or realize it important and worth abiding by. Several games were mentioned in this video, I am wondering if any of the Dungeons & Dragons computer games also fall into this category? I've been playing them for over 20 years but hearing these games mentioned is making me wonder about D&D. I never said that I was spending all of my time gaming, I asked about some games that I have played over the last 20+ years, that I still enjoy. I am retired, almost 64 years old, and disabled and the gaming I do is actually positive, so my psychologist tells me. The DooM series of games are the best because of endless war you can wage against the demonic forces of Hell. The marketing and hollyweird loves demons Diablo 4 was never a game that glorified it as you fought against the demons and corrupted angels. GTA on the other hand can be a parody where it is actually an eye opening look into how society is as a whole. There are some who can eat meat and some who are only able to drink milk.

I think Father Dan Reehill misunderstood the concept of Diablo 4. You’re not the bad guys worshipping Lilith or anything weird like that. You’re the good guys eliminating demons via holy powers. I’m not defending the game but I do think that proper context and understanding of what the game is about is also important. I’m Christian myself and believe in the blood of Jesus Christ to atone for my sins as I turn away from them but as Christians I don’t think we should be fear mongering each other in terms of what games we should be playing when they’re not even made for children to begin with but consenting adults.
