Man listening to Soonsay and just hearing the ego talk reinforces to me why melee is such a sick game. This game is so fucking hard to get good at that people have to tackle their inner demons and develop their personal character to become better. What a blessed game long live melee

Only 23 minutes in and I’m already a Soonsay fan. Love his outlook on mentality, trying to mitigate ego and expectations and general outlook on things. The part where he is transparent on looking at Twitter after a big win and sharing that he didn’t even want to go is just cool to see to me because it shows a more human side of a player and especially from on a big come up. Sometimes it’s hard to see yourself in a top player (in respects to visualizing yourself being good and adopting good competitive habits) because they are just so good and seasoned that it hard to put yourself mentally in their shoes (competitively speaking) because they’ve just been there so many times, and to hear the thought process from a rising star was really good perspective for aspiring competitors I feel like. Big props to soonsay congrats on 5th

CV: I definitely think the average age in the community is a big factor but I also think the maturity of the top competitors matters a lot. It's harder for fans to become toxic when the players they root for or against are respectful to each other. I also think we're all just happy that tournaments are happening again. It felt like there was a lot more controversy during lockdown when we had nothing better to do.

CV: I started watching melee in 2019 so idk if I can REALLY talk about how things were before - but in general when it comes to people being chill or assholes - I think it depends on where you look. For sure it seems like players are pretty nice to each other. But hop in the youtube comments or on a reddit thread and you'll find idiots. Twitter is fine and dandy until it's not. Melee isn't a monolith.

CV: I think with age skewing up, top players have definitely become more respectful and kinder and more mature. That shift is definitely apparent. However, your average melee spectators on social media (ie Twitter, Reddit, etc) are still as mean and toxic as ever

CV: I agree that melee at the top level seems much more friendly and respectful than it used to be. That being said, the relative anonymity slippi brought with unranked has created a toxic environment especially for lower level players just trying to get some games in. I know when the chat is limited and you're not in person, it's easy to get in your own head about what your opponent is thinking, but "lol" spamming is a pretty clear sign. I love melee, but slippi unranked is quite honestly the most infuriating gaming experience I've ever had due to toxicity.
@MorphBall12 жыл бұрын
CV: The community is more wholesome these days because all the toxic people are on slippi unranked lol Jokes aside, among the top players the atmosphere seems more wholesome overall but also more artificial. Melee is their job now and thus they cannot afford being mean to others anymore because their image, which is also their brand, would suffer. That's at least the impression I get sometimes, people walking on eggshells or only being mean when it benefits their social-media image.

CV: I feel like the local smash scenes are always extremely nice and welcoming to everyone nowadays. BUT the online smash community on all sides is extremely toxic and off putting to people. I have friends who will ask about some vague drama or issue, and I have to embarrassingly explain it. It can be pretty embarrassing at times to justify to others that the community in person is wonderful

Can we stop with the low tier questions? It's hard to believe some people have been watching the game since 2005 and still obsess over whether Ness can move 2 spots up on the tier list. Are you sure you are into the right game?
