I sang this song over and over again to my baby sister when she was sick with the whooping cough! I guess she was about 18 months old, and I was 9 years old. I carried her and walked up and down the hallway, into my bedroom, and back to hall way, singing, and singing, to calm her down. Oh, what sweet memories! If I had a hammer too! Wish I could remember the other songs I sang to her while she was sick.

This song was played on the air in Spring 1964. We lived in an old house in Hermosa Beach, California, at the time, and there was some rain that season; but no problems with a leaky roof. I now live in a mobile home some five miles or so away in Gardena and we have problems with the roof leaking at the rare times we have rain in Southern California.

Yes, the oldies from the 50s, 60s, and 70s need to make a comeback. Modern music is not that good. Rap and hip-hop are my least favorite genres, by the way. Silly lyrics and percussive beats... Yuk to the umpteen-zillionth degree. Yes, the oldies from 50s, 60s, and 70s need to have a resurgence. (BTW I'm Gen X but I'm old fashioned about the arts. Especially music!)

When I was a kid, I used to listen to this and many other songs on my dad's two Sony reel-to-reel tape players that he got while he was in Okinawa in the early 60s. He had quite an eclectic collection of tapes: Nat King Cole, Mitch Miller, Frank Sinatra, Andy Rodger Miller, and many many others, but my favorite by far was always the album The Serendipity Singers, which, naturally, included this song. I was only about three or four years old and I just loved it. I was just thinking about my mom and dad who have now both passed, and specifically thought about this song immediately, so I came to KZbin to search for it and was not disappointed. Thank you so much for posting this song, it was a rare treat to hear a song that I probably hadn't even thought about for over forty or more years, even though it was such a large part of my early years growing up. Thanks for playing it for me mom! I could never have queued up that tape myself at that young age. And now I'm left with the memories.

On this date in 1964 {Feb. 29th} "Don't Let The Rain Come Down (Crooked Little Man)" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; eventually it would peaked at #6 and spent 14 weeks in the Top 100... Ranked 32nd on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1964 chart... Was based on an English nursery rhyme; "There Was A Crooked Man"... The group formed at the University of Colorado; and had nine members...
