You guys speak truth. While in tech school to me a mechanic, i applied for a "lot boy" position at a local motorcycle shop. The owner said "are you sure you want this job? you will have to scrub toilets" i replied, i can scrub toilets in a shop or a walmart, but i might learn something here. (I was hired on the spot) -35 years later, i'm celebrating my 24th year with a major motorcycle manufacturer.

Best original takeaway from this: "If you can try and fail at something that doesn't hurt anyone, do it." That is so much more nuanced than all the toxic positivity follow-your-dreams yes-to-everything BS, or the only do things that you are sure benefit you. This is an actual rule you can follow and it's packaged with the right context to apply it to make your life better. Avoid things that would be a disaster or that would hurt those you care about, but if it's just you and you'll get through it, take the opportunity. That also fills into the make-your-own-luck philosophy, many-irons-in-the-fire is going to create opportunity. Great stuff from both you and Zilla.

Had to do exactly what you guys talked about at 12:40 last weekend. 20 degrees and snowing, tire was frozen onto the brake drum 2 hours away from home. Had to limp 50 miles down the road to a Lowe's to buy a sledgehammer and WD40 to break the ice. Worst experience of my life

Can you recommend a welder and a generator for use in my garage? I know about engine driven welders but I'm wondering if I can run a multi process welder on a generator

I use the HTP Pro Pulse 220 as my daily driver: 800usaweld.com/collections/htp-america-mig-welders/products/pro_pulse_220_mts?ref=42Fab It wants a 30amp breaker, so you're looking at a 7200W generator, but really having something with some more headroom is always a good idea. I don't have the experience with any one particular unit to put my name to it.

That's a whole lot of very good advice👍 What I find refreshing is the idea to run your business to support your life instead of supporting unsustainable wealth. The current Australian business plan seems to be maximum profit for minimum effort entirely at the expense of clients and customers.

@@billbaggins Given the current economic crisis thanks to the Pandemic, I think that there is going to be a major change in supply chain management across a wide variety of industries. We got caught short on PPE for the medical profession and the community and for ventilators. Now we find Kmart with empty shelves because almost all of their products come from China. China is also causing grief because their government is using trade disputes to pressure the Australian government. The answer is to not be completely reliant on just one customer or supplier.
@billbaggins
@billbaggins 4 жыл бұрын
@@markfryer9880 Probly about time we ditch the model of consumer driven economy that is so wasteful of resources. China would not be that harf to deal with , everyone exports raw materials to China where it is turned into crap that advertising convinces us we need. Stop exporting to China and make our own crap.😁

I agree with almost everything you said except the part about your helper working 11.5 hours being part time, now I get the fact that it's your company but there are rules and laws that protect workers from being over worked and under paid, im sure you pay over time after 8, or offer incentives, or atleast I hope you do. I say this because I worked for alot of years doing up to 20 hour shifts and at that point if the incentives are not there, there's no reason to stick around and slowly beat yourself into an early grave.
