I'm waiting for a judge to say in a rant, "I want the people in my district to put me out of a job! I want everyone to be so good and law abiding that I don't have any cases to handle. Instead of spending most of my day dealing with people like you who keep being stupid and getting in trouble again and again and again, I want to spend hours and hours a day helping first-time offenders get the help they need from all the great public and private social services that are available to them, so that the only time they ever come back into my courtroom is to thank me years later."

Plea agreements are weird. They ask have you been threatened or promised anything, which is the weird part. Plea deals only work because you are threatened with a harsher sentence and it's framed as damn near a promise. Our court system really operate in a fantasy universe full of word salad.

@user-jy3zl2vp4b
@user-jy3zl2vp4b 11 ай бұрын
AND plea agreements are weird because you are in a court of law to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.....but then pleas often are a charge of something different/lesser than what you did. I watched one where it was a moving violation plead down to double parking. However, after that the guy had another court hearing when the judge said he "previously double parked" and he said he had never double parked in his life....because he hadn't....but that is not what his record showed. So his record was not accurate...and pleas hide the true crimes which seems counter-intuitive if we are suppose to be holding people accountable and seeking "justice" for the crimes they actually committed.
@direne6558
@direne6558 10 ай бұрын
Not weird. Threats refer to if you don’t take a plea somebody outside of court will harm you etc. As far as harsher sentences you are not required to take the plea. You can always opt for court. So it’s not a threat. A plea for a lesser offense is a “ gift.”

I'm sorry, but since she caught him lying and blacksplaining AND noted that he was initially charged with a FELONY in this case while on PROBATION on FIVE current matters WITH a current outstanding warrant for his arrest, why didn't she sentence him as a habitual SCOFFLAW? A fine of 1 thousand dollars and now a SIXTH probation (most likely to run concurrently with the other 5) sends a very weak message. She's all bark and no bite. I really thought she was going to give him 5 years...PRISON..

I was shocked at the judges behaviour. She was practically giddy about being able to stick it to this guy. He was certainly partially at fault, but it clearly seems that the clerk dealing with him was on a power trip. She showed a lack of empathy to the guy who was at work at the time by saying that she wasn’t going to call him back, and he had to immediately comply. We’ve all dealt with civil servants who are rude and pushy because they feel they have license to do so because the people calling are at their mercy. She could have choked him up to having a bad day, but she went out of her way to stick it to this guy because her ego was hurt. It’s sad that people like that are in positions of authority over others. The fact that this judge was so excited about hammering this guy that she couldn’t contain herself shows her true character. Instead of investigating, she had a pre conceived notion as to what happened, and regardless of what he said, she was going to crucify him regardless. Judges should be fair and impartial, and it’s a sad day when this happens.

Why would Judge Bryant bring up the Jussie Smollett case and claim that she disagreedwith his 15 month sentence? What does Smollett's case have to do with this case?

If you don't like the way Judge Bryant handles things, then you just need her advice e to straighen and behave! She is fair and kind but no lying, not following her probation conditions and you must not like someone whose word is help you understand the rules of life.

Why is it so hard for some African Americans to say the word ASK and pronounce it a AXED , because coming from this guy sounds like he’s a serial killer, and you don’t want to believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

If the crime already got knocked down from a felony to a misdemeanor, the defense is a little tone-deaf asking for just fines and probation. This guy already demonstrated he thinks he’s above the law, so he really needs to feel some consequences.

I know, I hate seeming that. If he was on the other side politically and did similar crimes, I'm sure she'd be fine with years in prison.

@amandajackson8531 she definitely is off and a little touched. She makes the smallest issue a dissertation unnecessarily. It comes off as an ego, bravado and assertion of authority necessity. I'm sure the lawyers get sick of hearing it too but too scared of getting a lecture too. If she sould just listen to people and not cut them off. She backs them in a corner to shut up. He was clearly saying the PO took the first conversation while he was at work and on a time crunch and elaborated with that on her report to frame it in a way where he seemed disrespectful and uncooperative. He was asking why she needed to know the addresses because he didn't see how it related to the traffic violation. The PO I'm sure had an attitude as Judge Bryant does.

Love this honorable judge. Judge Bryant looks like a kid waiting to sit on Santa's lap waiting to render his sentence. She keeps giving him rope and tying that noose with his mouth. Ms McCall was called to put it around his neck and tighten it down. Then big dummy, "Can I say one more thing", jumped right off that chair.
