Instead of spending most of my day dealing with people like you who keep being stupid and getting in trouble again and again and again, I want to spend hours and hours a day helping first-time offenders get the help they need from all the great public and private social services that are available to them, so that the only time they ever come back into my courtroom is to thank me years later."

Plea agreements are weird. They ask have you been threatened or promised anything, which is the weird part. Plea deals only work because you are threatened with a harsher sentence and it's framed as damn near a promise. Our court system really operate in a fantasy universe full of word salad.
@OSGCourtWatch11 ай бұрын
can't argue with any of that...
@user-jy3zl2vp4b11 ай бұрын
AND plea agreements are weird because you are in a court of law to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.....but then pleas often are a charge of something different/lesser than what you did. I watched one where it was a moving violation plead down to double parking. However, after that the guy had another court hearing when the judge said he "previously double parked" and he said he had never double parked in his life....because he hadn't....but that is not what his record showed. So his record was not accurate...and pleas hide the true crimes which seems counter-intuitive if we are suppose to be holding people accountable and seeking "justice" for the crimes they actually committed.
@direne655810 ай бұрын
Not weird. Threats refer to if you don’t take a plea somebody outside of court will harm you etc. As far as harsher sentences you are not required to take the plea. You can always opt for court. So it’s not a threat. A plea for a lesser offense is a “ gift.”

I'm sorry, but since she caught him lying and blacksplaining AND noted that he was initially charged with a FELONY in this case while on PROBATION on FIVE current matters WITH a current outstanding warrant for his arrest, why didn't she sentence him as a habitual SCOFFLAW? A fine of 1 thousand dollars and now a SIXTH probation (most likely to run concurrently with the other 5) sends a very weak message. She's all bark and no bite. I really thought she was going to give him 5 years...PRISON..
@X-4RCH4 ай бұрын
I was shocked at the judges behaviour. She was practically giddy about being able to stick it to this guy. He was certainly partially at fault, but it clearly seems that the clerk dealing with him was on a power trip. She showed a lack of empathy to the guy who was at work at the time by saying that she wasn’t going to call him back, and he had to immediately comply. We’ve all dealt with civil servants who are rude and pushy because they feel they have license to do so because the people calling are at their mercy. She could have choked him up to having a bad day, but she went out of her way to stick it to this guy because her ego was hurt. It’s sad that people like that are in positions of authority over others. The fact that this judge was so excited about hammering this guy that she couldn’t contain herself shows her true character. Instead of investigating, she had a pre conceived notion as to what happened, and regardless of what he said, she was going to crucify him regardless. Judges should be fair and impartial, and it’s a sad day when this happens.
