70 dollars is a pretty good deal for a quality grow tent like that for sure, but I think it’s pretty hardcore misinformation saying you couldn’t build your own tent the same size and quality for under $30. PVC, panda film, and alittle ingenuity could save you $40+ & the opportunity to build something on your own and feel that satisfaction and pride that comes along with it. On top of that in DIY you can build it to your exact specifications and needs. I mean no offense but you spent $130 on a shoe rack and some Mylar

I agree with u the expensive shoe rack, lots of mistakes made. But I also think that time is money. If u enjoy building from scratch that’s one thing but you can’t beat a ready build tent that saves you time. Plus this works if u don’t have tools. Thanks for stopping by

Great video and many valid points. I remember my first grow tent was a few old plastic signs I cut into shape, lined with a thermal blanket and sealed it off. Cost me about 3 dollars but it was small only good for clones and seedlings.

You can use survival life covers as mylar (very cheap) and a used wooden furniture someone threw away. You can customize it easily also. The main problem with that is if you're looking for a big grow tent, there's a good chance you won't find one furniture that big, so it takes a little more time and effort to build.

I'm growing hot peppers, and now cannabis in Minnesota since August first. My plants are going great, but it's September, and the season is winding down. At $70 something I might by three of these set ups. Will check out your other stuff to see about setting up a proper indoor grow.

Just watched a video comparing reflective materials and the grow tent material was much lower in containing and reflecting ppfd. Aluminum foil or emergency mylar, which are both exceptionally cheap, wildly surpassed the 2 materials shown in your video that cost much more. The grow tent used cheap pvc but I'm sure you could DIY a cheaper structure than the 80 dollar rack you bought and line it with cheap aluminum foil or emergency mylar for a highly efficient DIY tent that outperforms the grow tent.

You can find cheap grow tents on Amazon for $60-$70. But do be careful because the tents are prone to tearing if mishandled during set up.

I get what you mean.. there’s a lot of DIY things that end up costing way more in raw materials.. I’m still going to try to get some things second hand.. like a kiddie pool, shelves.. maybe that will cut the cost.. curious if I could just use a regular camping tent and put aluminum on the interior.. my set up is currently in a uninsulated basement.. grow lights on succulents so they’re doing okay.. but I know they’d do far better in a grow tent.. plus use the energy from the Vivosun grow lights more efficiently.. I have my eye on a 100’ roll of reflective foam insulation I think could do the trick.. just seal it up with foil tape.. I think it could work. 🤔🤓 what do you think?
@joshuarudd6297
@joshuarudd6297 2 жыл бұрын
Make sure the aluminum foil is checkered or diamond patterned to prevent “hot spots” or creases that may focus light in one spot. A camping tent may work as a cool greenhouse maybe! Haven’t though about that. Something for me to think about. Good idea!

I made a grow box out of camping tent ,alumnium foil and some white paint result were amazing 90% similar to what I got out of "brand" growbox at litterally 1/10 of the cost. No idea why but for some reason these growboxes are waaaaaay overpriced (at least where I stay)

Just get 2x2 4ft and 8ft wood pieces. Make a rectangle frame with supports. Panda film and you're good to go. Add a zipper if you'd like for the door. Unless you're growing stinky tomatoes, you'll be fine. All in all i spent $80 on panda film and $50. For 2 4x8s tents not bad

I dunno bro. I can literally make tents far superior to the ones you buy. It took me about a year to get it down to an art and I had to buy a heavy duty sewing machine but it was well worth it. That being said, I have zero limitations on the size of my tents. I am able to have no ducting ports that are unused or unnecessary and can use duct flanges instead of fabric socks with drawstrings on them to pass through the walls or ceilings so that they are far better sealed. I can place hard materials between the layers of the materials I use for the shell and have hard walls, semi-hard walls, or just fabric walls. Even while using those materials I can still make them to where they fold and the hard walls are usually easier to fold anyway because of the way I make the panels. When it comes to the materials for the shell, I can use diamond mylar or panda film (I prefer the latter) on the inside and any strength and color of oxford cloth/canvas I choose, plus I can put access wherever I want. The frames I can make from steel tubing, aluminum box tubing, and stainless steel tubing. There are literally no limits to what I can build now. I got on this kick becasue I used to have a secret jardin Intense 240v3.0 and when it wore out (a little too quickly for what I paid for it) I decided that I should try to build my own version. I liked the Intense line because they have a 60cm alley down the center so it acts like two tents attached to eachother face to face with space to work in the middle. For example with the 240 walked into the entry int center of the unit, there is a 2ft wide alley that you are standing in and a 4x8 grow space to either side of you. It makes working on things easier and allows you put your ac and/or dehumidifer in there without them taking up valuable grow space. I do NOT buy cheap tents becasue I learned my lesson a long time ago and figured out that you really do get what you pay for most of the time. I'll avoid wimpy 600D tents as long as I live. lol

I don't want to be mean, but you really didn't build that DIY grow tent very cost effectively. Using cheap Led shop lights, a little timber, some cheap space blankets or similar, and some staples and screws and you could have a grow rack with capacity for a number of plants (and obviously there are many variations, using stuff like PVC pipes, chicken wire, silicone, Rubbermaid containers, etc.). It may be more work than some people want to put in, but for those who enjoy the DIY aspect you could really save some money over buying one.

You can make a way bigger one doe cheaper. Like a 4 foot by 8 foot and save so much. Once you get past a 2 by 4 it’s not cheap anymore. An it’s pointless to grow 2 plants. At lest for me

No offence my g, but your DIY grow tent is barely DIY. You need to build your own housing with PVC and find cheaper alternatives than the NASA space shuttle liner you got there. Buy cheap fabric and cheap reflective surfaces (tin foil?) to make your own liner. You should be able to make a massive tent for under $100.
