I have a Holosun 407k on my HC Pro. Had a gunsmith machine the posts off, and blue it for $14, not a big deal, took 15 min max. Rock solid mounted. No wobbling back and forth. Oh, yea, and they did have to cut down the screws included with the Holosun. Again no big deal if you have a good smith avaliable. Shout out to The Rock Guns and Accessories, Fayetteville, NC.

I direct mounted my Holosun 507K ACSS Vulcan reticle on my Hellcat pro. A few minutes with a dremel, touch up with some super blue, and it came out great. After I shaved the pins and before I installed the mounting screws, it fit so perfectly that it would stay on the gun without the screws. Of course you still need the screws, but that fit was amazing. I can co-witness better than yours (without the adapter plate) by what I saw in this video (I can see 90% of my front sight). I am a retired aircraft mechanic with 40+ years of expeiance building multi-million dollar airplanes for the military. So I have skills. The only down side I see is that you are permanently modifying your pistol which could effect resale. Also someone without skills could damage their pistol. You also need to be careful to prevent metal shavings from getting into the weapon. However the finished product is far superior to one of the other methods. Any gunsmith could do this job very quickly if you don't trust your own abilities. I also did the APEX trigger and action mod, extend mag release, and threaded barrel swap which I highly recommend. Oh yeah, they sell kits with many lengths of screws for an optic mount and a dremel can get you to the exact length you need.

Ok, good video. I am a machinist and making my "stuff" the way I want it is kind of a lifestyle for me. I did remove the rear lugs and direct mount a Holosun 507k X2. I have access(as most anyone could with a little legwork) to a lot of different hardware so the correct length screws wasn't an issue. If you know how to use dial calipers, a few seconds on a sander can shorten up the included screws fine. I CLEANED and used blue locktite on the screws. I also used a few drops of 2 part epoxy between the rear of the optic and the slide(sparingly). 2 part is nice on metal because it can be removed fairly easily but will stay in place and act as a filler/cushion for recoil. It has been on there for over a thousand rounds and hasn't budged. This is yet another reason for side loading battery trays.
@360TacticalSolutions2 жыл бұрын
Always glad to hear an experts opinion. Personally I always prefer a direct mount but I will say that if a plate system is designed properly, screws are correct and thread locker is used…there shouldn’t be an issue. The main point of argument seems to be cowitnessing which I honestly think doesnt matter. The overwhelming majority of self defense use of a firearm is 7 yards to so. At that range if your dot isnt working your muscle memory should be able to do the job and get you a hit

@@360TacticalSolutions EXACTLY on point. I simply prefer the lowest profile possible. I was LE in another life which led to private security and instructing. I'm still a guest instructor from time to time but that's not how I make my living anymore. Your observation about contact distance is correct. Predators naturally like to get as close to prey as possible even of at a subconscious level. I teach my students to first master the iron sights and then once you cannot possibly misalign the sights, then you can move to more effective use of a dot. The Pro has some excellent natural pointing characteristics which I think would make for a good "beginner" as well as experienced level carry option. The only thing I do not like is the unnecessarily heavy trigger. Feels like a G19 "NY Trigger."

Holosun SCS: Adapter plates add a lot of extra weight to the slide and jack up the sight to where you have to install taller sights to co-witness. Having an adapter plate between the sight and the slide is like having the neighbor between you and the ole lady when she doesn't have a headache! Holosun is starting to make pistol specific sights. Good example, Glock 19 Gen 5 with the Holosun SCS. A tight fit, matches perfectly with the slide! Reticle in green for old people like me! Co-witness with the "crappy" Gock sights, beautiful! I rotate between a dozen different guns just because I have this channel and I’m always testing new guns and holsters and stuff. Work is a tough one though. I wouldn’t want it actually on my body while I work anyways. It’s pretty physical work that I do. If needed though, it’s not far away. I as far as what to carry, the HCP is as comfortable as you can get while still using a gun that has all the good stuff…15rd mags, large enough barrel length to be accurate and reasonable recoil, large enough grip to get a good grip on it. Sure I could find a much smaller gun and use it as a pocket gun and it would be more comfortable but comfort never keeps you safe. Comfort catches you slippin lol. Seriously though, conceal carry sucks. It’s never comfortable, it’s a pain in the ass, but if you focus on using a gun that you use well then you will do fine.

Or to make the holster you have more comfortable, buy an Amazon yoga block for $7 along with some Velcro strips. You can find all kinds on video tutorials on how to carve a holster wedge from a yoga block. I had one viewer who cut a thin layer off a yoga block, 1/4” thick or so and then glued it down to his holster to give him a pad or buffer between him and the plastic.

Good video, I think I heard the holosun rep say that the 407k doesn't have the rear lug holes because they needed that space inside of the optic for one of the electronic features. I suppose there is only so much space in there. It is unfortunate that there isn't one "fullsize" and one "k" footprint. I'm having to accept the idea that at this point, with slide ride optics there is a certain amount of commitment and compromise required to get an optic on a slide. I chose to remove the rear posts and shorten the front posts of my 48MOS slide. Once I got through the slide treatment it wasn't that big of a deal. I blocked out some time and went slow, and cold blued and it has worked fine so far, time will tell.

Question dude, do you have to oil the bell cat before you shoot it the first time or are they more like Glock that you don’t have to until a few hundred rounds in ??? Thanks
@360TacticalSolutions9 ай бұрын
Any time I guy a gun my process is the same. Take it home and disassemble it. Clean the whole thing inside and out the same way I would if I had been out shooting and got it really dirty. After that I reassemble and lube it up. When a firearm is finished being assembled at the factory they put some oil on it so it wont rust or corrode between then and when it gets purchased. That gun could go 6 months before it ends up in a gun shop and go through 4 or 5 different distributors. Then at the gun shop it might sit a month, two months…it’s hard to say. The whole time that factory oil is collecting dust and changing to a thicker, sticky consistency which could create an issue. Regardless of the gun I clean the hell out of it and start with fresh oil so I know if there is an issue with the gun it’s not the lubrication thats the problem. Does it need oiled…probably not, but I want my guns to last and I want them to be reliable so thats the process I use

I see every comment, I respond to 99.9% as long as they are real comments that can be responded to and not just people being trolls lol. That being said…you probably wont like my response to your question. Cowitness is bullshit. Sure having iron sights as backups is good but I rely on my dot, I trust my dot otherwise I’m not going to have it on my gun. In the event that it goes down and I need my iron sights the human brain isnt going to work fast enough to switch sighting systems like that. I practice here and there with my optic battery removed to simulate my optic going down. The idea is to build the muscle memory and hone the skills of point shooting. That combined with dry fire practice regularly has gotten me to a point that I really dont even need sights on my gun for the most part. People put way too much focus on backup sights. I get wanting workable irons but the reality is they arent as important as people consider them to be. I have a video on the subject that I will post below. As far as what sights to go with, I couldnt say. Because I dont believe in cowitnessing the way a lot of people do I havent looked at taller sights for the HCP. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6vHaWZtgtahpbM

Do u have any recommendations for better irons sight to cowitness with the 407k?
@360TacticalSolutionsАй бұрын
I dont. Honestly when I train I will do a couple mags with no battery to simulate the optic failing. This gives me an idea of where my muzzle memory aim is. I dry fire several times a week, practicing drawing my gun from different cloths and putting sights on target in order to build up speed and muscle memory when it comes to aiming. If you practice regularly you can point shoot within an acceptable range of accuracy which will serve you better than back up iron sights. Some people may not agree and that’s fine but if you are used to using your red dot and it goes down and you have to change your point of focus back to iron sites there will be a certain amount of hesitation which could lead to you being harmed or even killed. Training is a million times more important than cowitnessing

First of all , we’re all in this experiment created by optic and gun manufacturers together , so I really appreciate these talking points. I am currently researching a no plate option for the Hellcat pro , and to the best of my early understanding, the Sentinel has the little rmsc holes for the posts on the hellcat. However , then I’m back to your scenario where you don’t really know what screws to use , which peeves me about the whole red dot industry beta testing on us. Anyway , you have valid arguments to use a plate , I’m however on a plate abstinence kick. So far , the “best effort award” to solve all this goes to Shadow Systems for completely redesigning how a gen 3 glock works , just to allow super long screws to be used in their slides to mount your optic. 2nd place in that category goes to Holosun , with their sls optic (if it ever comes available) that is made to directly mount to s specific gun (currently only Glock mos) (hopefully more options in the future) . Anyway , I’ll subscribe. All smart points made , though like I said , admittedly I’m anti plate right now. Me and plates are on a timeout.

Excellent points all around and I love getting feedback, opinions and other peoples personal experiences. There has to eventually be some kind of agreement made to standardize things, kind of like phone chargers. Of course…I use an iPhone so I am the odd man out on that argument. Still though there should be a standardization so that the consumer can benefit from being able to choose the optic that best suits their needs and preferences. Right now its like running a friggin gauntlet to get the right optic on the right gun with the right screws and everything working without falling off or breaking on you.

My issue with auto adjust is that it adjusts to the manufacturers idea of what a set of eyes will easily pick up during different lighting conditions. I find that all auto adjusts tend to lean toward being too dim for me to see as well as id like. So I found it best to just keep it at one brightness and go with it

Individual results will always vary. My Trijicon scratched after a half dozen range trips. Still no idea how. Hell that red dot cost as much as the gun its on so I was pretty easy on it. I wouldn't say that brands all RMR glass as easily scratched. If you really want to see what a red dot is capable of go scroll through the reviews at Sage Dynamics. The Holosun are the only ones that come close to matching the Trijicon in his tests and thats enough for me to trust them. Several shoulder height drops on cement and they still run and are still zeroed...I don't care where it was made. My one piece of advice though, you mentioned single star ratings? If you are reading reviews and ratings on Amazon, beware. Probably 7 out of 10 items are knockoffs when it comes to red dots and the majority of reviews are bots. Definitely do your research but don't buy it from Amazon or another source like that where they have different sellers. Buy from an established site like PSA or Brownells but never Amazon.

So I spoke with Wes at C&H he did confirm a design change for the Hellcat/ Pro. The original plate was .045, their new plate is .070. That's a huge change. The DPP is .058. He stated the C&H plate uses a higher quality aluminum compared to the DPP plate. I'm pretty bummed they changed the plate. It looks like the Glock 43x plate is exactly the same as the old hellcat plate. I might buy the Glock plate and just put it on my hellcat pro. Sorry, it’s been a hell of a week and I hadn’t had a chance to get back to you. I think I remember there was also something that C&H said about changing the plate due to a change in the design on the Holosun optic. It’s been a while so I dont remember exactly what they had said in the live stream. I will say…I dont mind the thicker plate, thinner plate…doesnt matter to me. Cowitnessing is like Bigfoot. It’s something cool that people talk about but whether or not it’s there makes zero difference in my day. I think thats the biggest problem people have with adapter plates is cowitnesing. I pull my battery and practice point shooting pretty frequently. What ive learned is that with regular dry fire practice and live fire training muscle memory will take over and help you land the vast majority of your shots within an acceptable range of accuracy. I trust my Holosun but I understand failures happen. If it fails when I need it im confident I can keep my shots within a reasonable grouping. @@360TacticalSolutions that’s exactly what I was thinking I’m just gonna let someone professionally installed and zero it in correctly. I appreciate your input and I watched your whole hellcat pro series playlist today and I was very intrigued. Thanks for everything!!

Good info and presentation. I am still on the fence. I hate the thought of obstructing the iron sights and I bought the Hellcat OSP because of the U notch rear. SA has no Hex dots in stock so not an option. From the gun side of this I can see the proprietary footprint but can't understand the optics folks not getting with the program!

Unpopular opinion of the day…we have made it to a place in time where you dont need iron sights. Co-whitnesing is a gimmick. If my dot goes down its ok because my muscle memory is going to get it on target well enough to protect myself in a defense situation. I really want to do a video on that topic soon. I will say this though, the iron sights on this gun are incredible. I love them. Almost love them enough to skip using the red dot

Springfield armory got caught in some sketchy 2A issues in the past. Despite that I bought a Saint Victor carbine from them. Not a fan. Their manipulative marketing isn't a surprise either. C&H Precision does great work and has an excellent reputation. Can't go wrong with Holosun's 407K/507K as well.

As far as AR's go...I won't buy one thats pre built. There is no convincing me that its worth it. The deceptive marketing practices and past issues...I feel that. I think for me im just looking for products that fit the needs I have. I rely on peoples opinions that I trust as well as my own personal experience. Id hope that Springfield learned their lessons but we will see. On that topic, you cant beat S&W as far as a 2A company that really believes in what they build and backs up its customers
