I just got finished re-siding a pretty good sized shed wall with LP Smart siding. I put in extra sticks vertically and horizontally so that I would have a stud where I needed one. I always said that if I ever was able to build me a house, I would put extra studs around every window for window treatments and extra studs in the kitchen and bath for cabinets and I would definitely run a stick line for a picture rail.

2:30 Back in the “old” days (we did it in 1964 … is that “old” enough? 😂), cabinets were made by your carpenter and they were one piece from side-to-side. It took time to do it right, but they were beautiful!
@sleepinglioness57549 ай бұрын
The bottom cabinets in my old house are like that and it gives you so much more room. Unfortunately, whoever built my house, I think needed glasses....everything is slightly crooked!! 🤓
@douglas_drew9 ай бұрын
In our area the Amish craftspeople often still do one piece cabinets. Measure twice, built in their shop, coordinated delivery with the house builder, put in place before inside walls limit access, actually go up quickly and get out of the finish carpenters' way. Fascinating to watch such coordination instead of guessing who will be on time and who will be waiting for other's work to be done.

I want to use French cleats to install new cabinets. I thought to use just one wall cleat, with each cabinet having it's own, and this seems like a great idea to keep them all from shifting over time and vibrations. Thanks *SO* much Leah! Pam {Tom's wife}
@jasondetty14439 ай бұрын
This is how I installed my cabinets over the washer/dryer. Takes some precise measuring, but very easy to install especially if you don't have a second person or cabinet to put braces on. I did 2 french cleats made with 3/4 inch plywood top and bottom and screwed through the cabinet into the wall mounted cleat to ensure that it never lifted off in case of earthquake/disaster. Still screw them together as Leah says for extra strength and uniformity.

Another great video Here in the UK most houses are not stud but brick or block construction with plaster up to 1 inch in some cases we have more holding power with in most cases just 2 screws at the top corners usually in a fancy bracket. I prefer to install a strip of wood on the lower edge of the cabinet so they have something to sit on and the top screws just stop the cabinet tipping forward. It is amazing how much weight we put in our cabinets. When I built my kitchen back in 1990s I use 600mm cupboards and use two 300mm doors on each one so that if I left a door open it not stick out over the counter top. I also made my own handles for the doors they were a metal bit pear shaped and mounted under the bottom of the doors, easy to use and it stopped me hanging towels on them ;-)) My kitchen is gloss white with the walls and floors an orange terracotta colour. My gas cooker and oven I hate 1/ the control dials are black number on a shiny mirror chrome that you can't read if you have on dark clothing 2/ the timer bleeper is hard to set if you want and "hour" and it has 3 levels of bleeper sound to chose 1/ quiet 2/ very quiet 3/ dog whistle, AND if your not in the room after 60 seconds the bleeper shuts off ??? Love what you do, many thanks.

Chicago screws (sex bolts) are fine for bolting cabinets together through the shelf peg holes. We used to call these "the uzi effect" when framless, 'euro style' 32mm system cabinets first appeared here in the states. Use the top and bottom holes. Hot glue a spacer if they have a frame that overhangs the box.

Easy remodel cabinet tip: remove old cabinets. cut out a 3&1/2 slot where new cabinets will go. In the drywall. Attach a 1x4 to the studs. So when you hang cabinets you always hit wood if you won’t hit a stud to hang the cabinet from. If you got 1/2 inch drywall. Just shim bottom of cabinet cause if you tile you will never see that space. Works great for bottom cabinets too
