Yuji Nishida (西田 有志, Nishida Yūji, born 30 January 2000) is a Japanese male volleyball player.
Nishida currently plays for JTEKT Stings, a volleyball club based in Kariya, Aichi, Japan. He made his debut with JTEKT Stings at V.League (Japan) on 6 January 2018 in a match against Osaka Blazers Sakail. His impressive debut at the young age of 17 soon earned him a position in JTEKT's Starting 6 [1] as well as Japan men's national volleyball team.
He is one of the youngest players in the 2018 roster of the Japan men's national volleyball team and FIVB cup Final.[2] He made his first international performance with the Japanese national team in 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's Nations League. In June 2018, he played a pivotal role in securing Japan's first win in 11 years against Italy where he collected 24 points from 21 spikes and 3 aces.[3] In September 2018, in a match against Argentina in 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship, Nishida became the youngest player ever to score 30 points in a match.[4] In June 2019, Nishida broke serving records in the VNL history after hitting 7 aces in a single game during a match against Bulgaria.
Varna, Bulgaria, June 15, 2019 - Japan put an end to a three-game losing streak in the 2019 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League beating host Bulgaria in a five-set thriller 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-19, 21-19). The Asians hit 11 aces with man of the match Yuji Nishida being responsible for seven of them.
Japan player Yuji Nishida: "We just wanted to show the Japanese way to win and I am happy that we managed to do it. It was a very important victory especially in such a difficult atmosphere. Tomorrow we meet Australia who has a very strong squad as well but if we play like today we’ll able to win again."
Bulgaria coach Silvano Prandi: “A match that we must erase from the memory as quickly as possible. We didn’t manage to do a single thing right. We looked like a team that is yet to learn the alphabet of volleyball. You can’t win with seven serve errors in the tiebreak, four of them in a row. What tactic can you deploy when you can’t put the ball in play?”
Japan coach Yuichi Nakagaichi: "It was nice to win this match. It was on their home court, the crowd was amazing and it is a good experience for us to get victories in these conditions. We served well during the whole match but we had some troubles with some other elements. We have to work hard and be better in side-outs. The Bulgarian team made a lot of serving mistakes in the tiebreak which gave us the necessary advantage and that was the reason why we won."
Bulgaria player Tsvetan Sokolov: “Congratulations to Japan, they played an almost faultless match. We struggled with the reception in the second and fourth set and in the tiebreak as well. And it made our attack ineffective. We need to analyze the tape and prepare the best possible way for the match against Italy. We’ve been in a similar situation before and always managed to get up. Tomorrow is a new day.”
Bulgaria player Nikolay Uchikov: “We made too many mistakes. The Japanese serve was extra special and made us look helpless. I think today we played better than against Australia but it wasn’t enough to win.”

@@wenmoon2589 yeah dude try to control a whole crowd that wants their team to win. Volleyball is more mental, more psychological, than it is physical. Mental toughness is one of the first things an athlete needs to learn because in a game, you can't control who the crowd cheers for, you can't control if they boo you, you can't control someone from the opposite team who will try to psych you out, but what you can and should control is your nerves and play the game. See how in the game, the one who had better composure won? 😉

Rooting for the home team is one thing, everybody does that and wants their team to win, but booing the opponents takes it to another level. @@trauma._ Yeah no clue what the commentators were on about... the challenge animation was on a net violation but it might have just been a problem with the technology.
