Wise and inspirational words man. Question, when you say a good pace is producing at least 100+ tracks a year. Are you saying 100+ finished tunes, or tunes that had significant progress but may be put aside when it’s hard to proceed. I make many beats a year, but only a fraction of those are at least in my opinion finished and ready for release / get released.

Great question - In this video I am using the word "songs" very loosely - maybe the terms "ideas" or "beats" or "sketches" could also be used. In other words, I think it's extremely important to, among other things, have recorded at least one new idea everyday. This idea can be one or two simple loops, with or without a bridge or intro, etc. My perspective are very limited, but in my experience, it is not uncommon for a producer to create 3 or 4 of these in a day. In extreme cases, some do up to a dozen. Some only do one or two. Of course, everyone has their own process. For me, I make one or two everyday, unless I am touring or in "album mode". "Album mode" is a time where I"m completing an album and I temporarily cease making new ideas. But honestly, of all the producers I know, I make the least beats.

Wow, always used to think of my abandoned projects as unfinished, whereas I see now that I didn't wanna accept that that's as far as I can currently put the song idea of my head into existence. Those projects are done and I'll rarely only open them to just listen once.. Instead, I could focus now on what parts I'm still lacking and where to improve. Might actually finish mixing and mastering projects then too. Dope insight kiefer!

Needed to hear all of this. I just submitted a track to a label for a compilation THAT WILL SEE THE WORLD. My track objectively has a worse mix than an album I released 2 years prior. I HATE THE TRACK SO MUCH BUT I had to draw the line in the sand. Even so, it gives me things that I need to own now and improve on before I try to release the next thing.

Hey Kiefer (and anyone else in this community), I've seen a couple of pianists, (you and elijah fox) leave their uprights with the front open, is this something that is safe to do?
@kiefdaddysupreme Жыл бұрын
Honestly probably not the best for the piano because the felt can be negatively impacted by humidity and temperature changes, but I can't help myself - it sounds so good
@joshbottz Жыл бұрын
I resonate so much with this philosophy. I am trash at producing haha, but I know the only way to make my music sound better is to produce a shit load of work. Same with KZbin videos. I've made like 250 KZbin videos, but I still feel that they're bad. Man, I can't wait until my 500th video. Damn, that one is gonna be SICK! Same with my 500th track. Holy sh**. Can't wait to hear it!

I'm a guitarist... Or so I thought until I started trying to produce myself as a guitarist. Now, I'm just a mediocre guitarist staring at a sub mediocre producer wondering why he can't make my campfire chords sound like magic

Every word you spoke was fire. Serious nuggets. What would you say to somebody who doesn’t have the privilege of working full time in music, but wants to still make art? Still possible? Thank you!
@kiefdaddysupreme Жыл бұрын
It is definitely possible to do great things in music even if you are not full time - but if the time you have to work on music is limited, then 1) organizing your time, 2) working on the right stuff, and 3) developing long term consistency will be extremely important. If everyday you 1) spend one or two hours, 2) working on the right stuff, and 3) extend that out to multiple years of development, you can become a very strong musician.
