Absolutely respect and applaud your commitment to what you do, your knowledge and drive to adapt. That said this is called the People’s network and the network needs to find a way to continue to take care of the people that built it, it’s that simple. I may or may not know what I’m talking about but I’d venture to guess that over 99% of the people running miners at home got into it for the plug and play passive income with a quick ROI and I towards steady passive income overtime. What you talking about will appeal to very few people as most people who are running these miners at home already have other life paths and are not going to switch their careers to installing sensors in remote places or farms and committing to deeper financial investments. If their rewards get too low to actively care about maintaining and monitoring the Network, then it seems the network itself will fail as people go off-line. I very much hope, especially after someone who’s waited for nine months for my hotspot to show up and I’ve only been running for three weeks, that the network finds a way to continue to keep some decent baseline level of reward going out to everyone keeping the network plugged in. You’re awesome and I appreciate the work you do. I’m just over here realizing that this gold rush has gotten to that classic point where the only people who seem to be making real money still are those selling the shovels at high cost. All I can do at this point is go along for the ride and Hope new use cases pop up to keep HNT values at levels to keep us all interested. Again, seriously respect what you’re trying to do and the fact that you telling people The real deal and showing ways that they can stay involved and potentially be some of the few that make really good money off this in the future by adapting to these changes and committing to it. I just worry that the majority of people involved aren’t willing to do this and I hope that balance is found somehow so that your path can work out for you and still keep the rest of us involved.

Right on Monty, and thank you for being polite. Unlikely the network will fail at this point, though possible. The more folks drop offline the greater the rewards will get for those who stay. Likely to hit an equilibrium close to where we are currently. It does sting for those who were banking on fast delivery and steady money, and I get that.
@PresidenteHollanda2 жыл бұрын
Spot on what i am already telling for a long time, the majority of people bought a miner for the 'ease of earning money' . They will switch off their miner, as soon income from it has gone down drastically. If i look at the chart of the HNT price, this is also a negative sign that investors are loosing interest .. that is the first sign of weakness. I see the 'King' has responded with 'less miners leave more rewards for the rest', but what if to many miners go off line ... what if 90% of all miners switch off in the near future? There will be only 'lonely wolfs' in the wild, what in the end will be the beginning of the end. If people ask me if it is good to buy a hotspot now, i am honest to say NO it is not anymore due to areas flooded with hotspots and rewards are not as good as advertised. And if we make the transfer to DATA, the penny that you make now, will be a nickle in the future. The light hotspots will speed up things in going down, but that is my opinion. BTW, the price of HNT is on or even below the halving value ... do i have to say more ... trust is slowly draining away of investors ... this is becoming a danger zone for the project.
@graysgreenroom2 жыл бұрын
Wow! Monty you have said exactly what I was thinking. I'm in it for the passive income and all I can do is hope that income stays "decent". Not what I expected, but not to shabby for now. If it drops much lower and stays that way then it will be a bust for me. I would just keep plugged in until I make back my investment and then pull out. However, if it climbs back and stays steady at around $25 to $30 per HNT then I stay in for good.

If you reflect the BTC price on the HNT price, the project support by investors is about 50% lower then it should be ... so HNT on itself is what we call 'detaching' the trend by lagging so far behind. BTC is bouncing off the 100ema at mo, and SPY off the 0.236 fib level. With the mid-terms coming, you tend to find these things combined mean S&P will get all time highs with 6 months. BTC will follow and other bitcoin will, hard to say if HNT will. Certainly though, I'd suggest holding onto them

In the long run, the value of the network HAS to come from data flowing through the network. That is it's purpose and must pay the cost. Switching to deploying sensors may or may not make money, but that is a different business and did not require your involvement in deploying hotspots.

You say that the reward for PoC will be lower due to the increase in the number of miners. But what's the point now to buy a miner with ROI 1 year or more. Most people who have 1 miner wanted to increase their number, but only because the ROI was 3-4 months ... Now with such a price for HNT and a decrease in rewards for PoC, I think the number of new miners will decrease.Also, given the fact that people install miners in places for which you need to pay some money to the owner of the building, to pay for the Internet, electricity ... ROI will be very large. I'm not talking about the possibility of using sensors, this area can be developed and earn on it, but I do not think that in a big city, with constant access to the Internet, there will be a need for LoRa sensors. If I'm wrong, it would be good if you made more videos about the possibilities of using sensors, especially in the city. Thank you.

@@thegristleking You are a holder of one of the few holders of hnt security tokens, getting 30% of the monthly rewards. I understand you have made all your big money already. Others have not. The transition from POC earning to data credits may need to be moved more slowly to continue to incetivize the onboarding new hotspots in rural areas. Less rewards will slow coverage growth. If you care about the network growth maybe introduce a H.I.P. that will cut security token rewards in half and redistribute them to the "people" out here growing the network. It could be that the sooner we can get rid of SECURITY TOKEN DISTRIBUTIONS the sooner we can get more decectralized and listed on Coinbase and CREATE MORE DEMAND and have less ambiguity about it status as a security. Hotspot owners are the IaaS providers, if the earnings from their efforts are too low, their vested interest in the project will decay as will coverage. HNT needs more utility, aside from staking, that hotspot owners AND hosts can participate in that doesn't add additional cost to their bottom line.

You could totally use your own network on a site. The general idea (as I understand it) is that a user on a farm may already have coverage from nearby Hotspots, so could avoid having to buy & setup gateways, or they can earn a little HNT in addition to having a net zero on the data credits if their Hotspot processes the data.

"My husband just doesn't have the time to learn what this is about" or that there is some inherent risk to the security of their location if they host are a couple of rejection statements i've gotten.

Nik, good vid! But at the end of the day every future business using the network does need the network itself. And if the hotspot owners will not get a certain reward for running a hotspot, there is a big risk that the network is dying out. Nobody will run hotspots near for free and other doing big business with using it! That never will be happening!
@thegristleking2 жыл бұрын
Businesses already run gateways for free on other networks. The HNT was always only a bonus. The real value is in the coverage provided; a business needing coverage is going to use a gateway. Someone in densely crowded city with 20 too many Hotspots in their res 8 hex will probably turn it off, but that Hotspot was never a real benefit to the Network.
@helmutp60682 жыл бұрын
@@thegristleking that there are networks running hotspots for free, doesn’t make the situation better with Helium. As you may agree the most Helium hotspots were bought and installed because the people expected relatively high earnings with running the hotspot. They are not really interested in building an IoT network as they don’t understand in general. They only want to earn (max) money on running a hotspot. And if they won’t see this earnings they are more and more calling it a scam on Facebook groups or elsewhere. And that’s bad for Helium. And I hardly believe the most will switch off hotspots if they won’t earn at certain amount of money. Especially if they will recognise that there are others building big businesses with their hotspots, which running near for free. In my opinion it’s hard on time to get an official committee which represents Helium hotspot owners!

Will this network ever become self-sustained, without relying on external ISPs for connectivity? If not, I think if it becomes used widely, the big ISPs will blacklist the devices. Right now they probably look at HNT hotspots as cute little meaningless competition, but when it starts to hurt their profit margins, they will do everything in their $billions-war-chest power to shit it down. Same thing taxi company lobbyists tried to do to Uber/Lyft, but in that case, Uber and Lyft didn’t depend on the existing taxi company infrastructure to work. ISPs could easily find a way to flip a switch and shut down hotspot access to the internet.

I think it would take a lawyer to address your concern. Contractually, do we have a right to use our data in a non-criminal way? The ISPs haven't stopped all manner of extremely expensive hacking ventures. If they can't/haven't done that, what makes us think they could stop Helium? There are devices that can block your ISP from harvesting data they habitually do now. Who's to say someone wouldn't come up with a technical solution circumventing any intervention they'd attempt?

Also, consider that replacement devices will in all likelihood be the lower price point "light" hotspots. To hear Sorin talk about it on his interview with Nik, there's not a component related reason the price on those couldn't eventually be $20-30 (though my guess is that would be years down the line, if it happens at all).

@@gsentinel7948 I guess if it keeps halving every couple years, it will never go to zero but pretty damn close. As for data, Nik is correct, you would have to be passing insane amounts of data to make any money. The whole point is the data is cheap. A few sensors from your neighbor's weather station isn't even going to pay for electricity. As for super inexpensive hot spots, the lora concentrator alone costs $100 so even if there was a cheap board to use it with, it's still going to cost ~$150

Certainly people will turn off the devices when the rewards are less than the payments for running a device (paying internet/paying to an owner for his roof/fixing broken components like antenna/poe/enclosures and so on). The Helium team can't just use the people to spread their network. It should be profitable for both parties to work on. Nobody expect big profit now but if that average daily reward of 0,1 HNT continue dropping with the same speed(or faster even) as in last 6 months then supporting the network will be completely voluntarily. And for using the network.. I work in a pharmaceutical comapny manufacturing drugs and delivering em to hospitals in special temperature contorlled boxes. I understand nothing from using IoT (for now) but I believe this field could be explored further and montiroing/gps sensors could be developed and used. Such an use case sounds very helpful to me. P.S. Great video from the King :) Let us all hope the update will run smooth and the best is yet to come for the network and for us, the people who build it.
@thegristleking2 жыл бұрын
Hi Radostin, agree that people are likely to turn off when costs exceeds generated income; that makes sense. I don't think the avg daily reward will drop as fast as it has in the past; the Network can't maintain the expansion speed relative to its size. Totally agree re. exploring use cases in your company; that's the exciting future!

Just trying to understand something here, what is going to happen to pick in the future? Going to disappear? Or still the same base and on top if the network a more massive data usage? I dont feel discredited by the helium network, but the power of it's usage is it's coverage, when we assume people are going to unplug and that's it, the whole coverage concept gets thinner IMHO. Just to be clear, love the project, and would even like to be able to actively collaborate with the helium team, but I have to admit this video got me confused. (I didn't forget the period at the end of the sentence).
@thegristleking2 жыл бұрын
Right on Rui! PoC will continue to be awarded, but as you've seen when the Network grows, those rewards will get smaller and smaller. I don't think we'll see any significant decrease in coverage from people unplugging; there's no incentive to unplug if you're providing useful coverage. What we may see is a lot of people who contributed to overly dense deployments may lose interest.
