A parent was physically and verbally abusive to me as a child. I always thought it was all my fault because that's what I was told. It even got to a point that I'd keep everything, including problems at school like bullying or finances. I grew up not opening to others. Yet I still never saw the issue with my parent. Then I started to live on my own. Finally, I began experiencing happiness without judgement. Then I thought I was ready to go back home. The abusive parent is no longer physically abusive but the emotional abuse and control is still there, it's just done more covertly this time. I tried to point out some of the toxicity hoping we could talk it out but of course, I'm told that I was making a fuss out of nothing and again I'm the bad guy. For peace of mind, I chose to stay away again. However, being Filipino, cutting ties with family isn't the norm. Whoever cut ties especially a child is unfortunately vilified. Either way, the burden is on me. P.S. I'm not angry or feel any resentment towards my parent. However, I chose to protect myself from further abuse and toxicity. It's not easy though as it still gets me from time to time and feel guilty for staying away. I still help them out financially through my sibling. I hope my siblings will eventually understand where I'm coming.

I am sorry. We are in the same boat…so much hurt so much pain. I worked abroad and my parents are back home. I have been quiet with my pain, abusive words, humiliation, backstabbing from this parent it got me to a point of negative self talk, depression and episodes of suicide ideation. I felt Im not being loved. I felt I was alone in this world, I felt I was not enough, no family, nothing. Just few days ago, I was humiliated by a parent in social media/public and my mental health went down spiral until I snapped out. You know my realization was? Its a blessing in disguise that I realized the only important relationship that I can have is God because I know HE WILL NEVER JUDGE & WILL NEVER HURT ME. It came to a point I have strength to heal myself, back to square one. It is not easy, but he will remind you that YOU ALONE IS ENOUGH and GOD ALONE IS ENOUGH WITH YOUR LOVE. I know we Filipinos have this culture that we can’t just cut our ties to our family but I am proud of you. Hugs and love from a child of another narc parent❤️🤗🌻
