I’m not sure if Spurgeon actually said all this. I would suppose that Charles wouldn’t have condemned narcissists but rather attempted to plead that they repent. This sounds to me to be condemnation towards people with this specific social deficiency. There is forgiveness for the narcissist I would assume. Just as there is forgiveness for the murderer or the adulterer. For the title to make a bold claim such as “the narcissist is a demon” I would say is a very damning title.

Humans without Christ are all narcissists. We must worship something, if not God typically oneself or someone other human/god unworthy of that affection. It seems that humans use that term as cudgel to pass judgement almost as if they couldn’t posses any of those negative characteristics themselves. Sounds like pride to me, proceed with caution lest on stumble.

This sermon on narcissism is questionable. The term narcissism was first used long after Spurgeon had died. If you don't believe this fact, check the origin of the word in scientific and popular usage. However, the term used in earlier times was "self-lover." If Spurgeon is the author of this talk he would most likely have used a term that ordinary folk would have understood. But to attribute to Spurgeon a talk on "Narcissism" is not only misleading but DISHONEST and an insult to a great man of God.

I totally disagree with your comment about us all being narcissistic before believing in God. Study the behaviour of narcissism. There is only a very small bit of narcissistic traits all humans have, however, not to the extend of the full blown narcissistic personality disorder. There is a big difference between having normal narcissistic traits and NPD. Do you, or have you always had the intention of hurting everyone for your benefit, no matter what it did to the other person. Did you tell lies all the time just to see what you could get away with? Were you putting people down, name calling, blame shifting, not taking any responsibility for your actions, insulting people all the time???

Just claim it as from yourself or whatever you pulled it from and give credit where it is due. Aside from that, it is good to make our brethren aware of such characters and cross reference with scripture.
