True life story this song. My dearest baby sista We ride into the wind on our scooter then get out of our own comfort zone to pack up and finally haul ass to the south and the warm glow of close friends and that Florida sun. Found

it is a great song. RIP Gary. I don't know where any singles charted, but this album hit #13 and the second album hit 24, so I would consider that popular and well regarded. As fora radio air play, I'm not sure where it would fit in thinking back to radio at that time? Maybe the album rock stations played it? They were more of a clean grove/blues/southern rock band with a Janis Joplin vocal feel. Considering it was a spin off group, southern rock seemed to be fading, and maybe they did not fit it in with the current fads/trends? Who knows. Also record company promotion, how hard the band members do promotions, and touring all impacted record sales. From the wiki page, it seemed like band members were having personal issues. I recall that album being played at parties. Just my take on it. Take care.

Thank you for posting. Imagine This it's 1980 you're 15 years old you sneak out of the house to meet a girl that you work with who's very cute who says she'll drive by in her sister's boyfriend's car a 1975 Plymouth duster jacked up in the back metallic green with cragar rims as we're riding around the back woods road this song comes on the radio through a early 1980s Auto pioneer cassette tape deck. It was just magic for my 15-year-old mind what a great memory thank you for posting this song.

Dammit, your comment almost made me get teary eyed. I was 15 in 1980 also. I wonder how my old girlfriend is doing now. Love seemed simple at that age. I want to go back in time and experience it all again. Youth is wasted on the young!

It should be noted that Dale Krantz, the lead singer on Don't Misunderstand Me, was actually married to Gary Rossington until his death in 2023.

My late husband and I went on 4 Skynyrd cruises. We were married the same year as Dale n Gary. On our third(?) cruise they renewed their vows om the Lido deck. Charlie Starr, lead guitar/singer/ frontman of Blackberry Smoke, played the wedding march. He was playing a Les Paul as if it were a violin!! Charlie is an AMAZING artist and a great guy. He rose to the occasion beautifilly! So glad I got to see it!

Saw Rossington Collins Band at the Orpheum Theater in Boston when this album came out. I was sitting in the front row of the balcony next to the light tech for the band. When they played this song everyone on the balcony started dancing and jumping around. The balcony shook so hard the light tech almost fell off his chair and had to hold onto the control board so it wouldn't fall off the balcony. It was nuts! GREAT ALBUM! ALL the songs are friggin' great!

I played this in a band I was in my senior year of high school. We had a fantastic girl singer who was only 15 at the time we started. We played from 1980-83. We played quite a few tunes off this album. Another great female fronted band we did a lot of tunes from was a band named “Toronto “. We heard them when we went to see Rossington Collins. Toronto was the opening act. Their biggest hit was Your Daddy Don’t Know. Killer band with a female lead singer along with a female lead guitarist ala Heart type lineup. I believe Holly Woods lead singer from Toronto wrote These Dreams that Heart had a huge hit with.
