I grew up in the Bronx and could even walk to the Bronx Zoo it was so close to my neighborhood. In the those days, you could even visit the zoo for free on certain days of the week. You should also visit the Botanical Gardens which is located just across the street -Fordham Road - from the zoo. Two great places right next to each other.

The Bronx Zoo looked really cool, looks like they gave their animals some natural looking enclosures to live in. Much better than I remember the Philadelphia Zoo's enclosures being (although I haven't been there in many many years, so maybe they've improved them since then). You want hidden try queens. There’s a massive anime store hidden in a doorway and it’s four levels. There’s a south American Michelin level restaurant in manhattan hidden in a loading bay and it’s no bigger than a street cart. Near Times Square there’s the food hall that is Anthony bourdain’s final project yet it’s not even a blip on any radar. Chinatown has a food hall with a fully trained sushi chef doing a omakase yet nobody knows, it’s right on Mott I believe. Little Odessa has so many hidden spots especially for Russians. Heck the Russian American theater usually has a show running. There’s the restaurant with the waiter who’s massive and has a fire plug head but Russian grandmas run the kitchen.

The area near the Brooklyn bridge is called DUMBO. It was a big shipping area when trains were the main method of transport. You can even see railroad tracks in the asphalt sometimes. Dumbo was completely redeveloped into trendy apartments and shops. The seaport area was also redone into a food hall and a place where families hang out.

I would come back to NYC for a visit and maybe see a show, but I don't think I would want to live there for any length of time. Yes, its 3:58 am EST. Just got home from working a second shift and over time ( extra hours) at our main warehouse packing parts. Last time I was in NY; my Rode Island relative talked me into driving across the Brooklyn Bridge, a task that I will never repeat. 6 Lanes narrowed into the 3 lanes of the bridge and I was so busy navigating traffic that I missed the view off the bridge and the bridge itself. This completes my total memory of New York City when I was 28 years old. ( that was only 37 years ago, where did the time go!!!) Using a hot pad to try to shrink & relax my muscles before bed. Never knew that New York had such beach near Coney Island and I totally forgot about the Bronx Zoo ( never been there) and such nice walk ways on Long Island. No one ever told me that such places existed until now. Great idea for a video that no one else has every made on New York City. Now, how does one avoid the traffic jams to get to such places?

I remember the subway system most as it went everywhere. In Manhattan, the street numbers, avenues, and taxis made a personal vehicle unnecessary. Also, the city populace has a way of bringing people together rich or poor in times of struggle. Other cities can't say this. This was my experience anyway, some time ago, back in the day.🙂

Actually you pay nothing if you are a New York City resident. Just ask someone about the Met and free admission. Just flash your New York City Id card to the guard. You’re in very quickly. The museum just built the insect exhibit which has leaf cutter ants and rare desert dwelling ants. Ants Canada was there trying to learn about how to create a massive rainforest in a tank. He created a cloud rainforest which is attached to a canopy of trees. All for ants and observing an ecosystem in progress.
