Don’t play with Miles Davis…George Coleman & Cannonball Adderley Snoring (RARE RECORDINGS)

Some true pieces of history. First audio piece is from the "Seven Steps to Heaven" tune is "So Near, So Far". There seemed to be some confusion about the form on Miles' end. Miles clears it all right up.
Band Personnel:
Miles Davis - Trumpet
George Coleman - Tenor Sax
Victor Feldman - Piano (apologies for Herbie Hancock's face during his dialogue)
Ron Carter - Bass
Frank Butler - Drums (apologies again)
The second excerpt is from the ever famous Miles Davis Sextet recordings at 30th Street Columbia Studios, New York 1958.
This star studded cast of musicians would create arguably the greatest/most listened to jazz album of all time, "Kind of Blue". It appears that while attempting to record a take of "Stella by Starlight", Cannonball Adderley can't seem to stay awake while Miles plays the head. "Don't snore over my solo, Bitch."
Band Personnel:
Miles Davis - Trumpet
Cannonball Adderley - Alto Sax
John Coltrane - Tenor Sax
Bill Evans - Piano
Paul Chambers - Bass
Jimmy Cobb - Drums
Please Enjoy. And Like.

Those old time jazz guys were the best. Miles included. I was so lucky to have met many in my youth. They were true musical geniuses that wrote the equivalent of a Beethoven Symphony real time in front of you on stage. And in between sets would chat with you, share a drink with you as if they were just like anyone else. It could be Dizzy, Sonny, or any of the other jazz greats. They were our Bachs and Mozarts. I miss them all.

What I would give to have been there amongst these musicians. What a line up! Davis could say whatever the hell he liked to me and I would just smile to be there. Sounds like they`re just talking shit to each other. That`s totally normal in my circle of friends. If Miles was pissed off, we`d all know it. Or else he would walk out. How fortunate that this valuable, fly on the wall insight was kept. Thanks for posting this.

@TrumpetTNT
@TrumpetTNT 7 жыл бұрын
I think that the 1st excerpt is from the Hollywood sessions with Victor Feldman on piano and Frank Butler on drums. I say that because you can clearly hear an English accent, i.e. Victor Feldman. Miles even say's 'Look here, Vic' at 1min50secs. Also, 'So Near, So Far' was composed by London jazz musicians Tony Crombie and Benny Green, and seeing the Vic Feldman had only recently moved to LA from London, it makes sense that it is him on the session.

I wondered that too. Sounds kinda high, Coltrane's voice was probably too deep. Cannonball wouldn't be the one laughing. I don't know what PC's voice sounded like but he probably didn't have a mic next to his mouth, and that laugh is very clear and close sounding. So I suspect it was Cobb.
