Location: San Pedro, California (a relatively easy place to take the test). It's typical for American drivers to be overconfident that their vehicles would not roll back (because of the automatic transmission), as well as assuming that the car in front of them would not do so, thus failing to keep a safe distance uphill. This would not happen in European and Latin American countries, because of manual transmissions reminding them to control the vehicle from rolling back.

It is important not to rely on ANY advanced safety feature, such as crash avoidance and lane drift warning, when driving. Sometimes I think those kinds of safety features are going to make drivers more complacent, and, therefore, should not be included in cars.

Hey I have a question my driving test is in a couple of days the car that I’m taking the test in has a rear view camera so it’s much easier to use for reversing could I use that to back out or do I have to use the look over my shoulder rear view window technique? It seems dumb to not use the camera because you can see way better but if I’ll be marked down for that I’d better start practicing the other way now

I don't think I did any reversing, but if I did I probably would've looked over my shoulder since the instructor probably would want you to do that. It's not too difficult honestly. But if he let's you use the camera, that's a plus. Edit: my bad, I do remember reversing now that I think about it. Man it's been a few years lol. It wasn't hard, I just had to make sure the car was straightened out before I started reversing. You just have to keep the steering wheel straight

For anyone else taking their test, I believe if it it's a passive feature (activates automatically) of the car, you should be fine. I'm from Michigan and as long as the feature(s) is passive, we're allowed to use it.

Hey guys I just wanted to share a quick story of mine with my road tests. I took my first one a little over a week ago. I did it and messed up on 2 things. The 2 things should of marked me off 20 points. Everything else I did was fine. I got a bad instructor and she tried to mark me off 80 points. And after I looked at what she marked me off for I thought this is completely bs. It ruined my day knowing that I failed. So I found the next closest day to take my second one. On my second test I calmed down a lot and got a feel of how it was going to be and drove around the area before the test. I got a very nice lady and she didn’t scare me at all! I ended up passing the test and old had 20 points taken off! So pretty much don’t feel to down if you fail the first and just think you know how the next one should be. Just pretend like the instructor is one of your friends! And if you need to take the second one pick a day that you feel is the most comfortable for you and get some practice in again! (Sorry for the long paragraph and Thankyou to who ever read this :). Good luck Have a good day!!!!!)

Didnt know automatics could roll back like that. I drive manual so I have to be careful and juggle the gas cos you can stall. If that happens your going backwards you got to hit the brake fast or roll backward a lot lol

If you take the test in a manual car some examiners will give you an exception if you roll back but it’s best to even prevent it from happening.

Question for anyone who may know. Is having an airbag service urgent warning on your dashboard not allowed for the drive test, or do they not check that? I have a Volvo S60 from 2003, I’d be willing to give more info in case someone knows.

Usually the only acceptable warning light is the oil change light or "maintenance required". No other lights should be present during the time of examination. But it may depending based on where you live, so check your laws.
