When to Use the Present vs. Present Continuous in English - For Haitian Speakers
In today's lesson, I explain the difference between the present simple and the present continuous in English, specifically for Haitian speakers. You'll learn when to use each tense, and I’ll show you common mistakes to avoid, like why we don't say "I am believing in God" but we do say "I am dancing." This video will help you understand stative verbs and action verbs, making it easier to speak English more naturally. Watch until the end for examples and tips to improve your English skills quickly!

Thanks for watching. I want to explain something quickly. When stative verbs are used in the present continuous, they show an action or process. But, as I said in the video, it changes the meaning of the verb depending on the situation. Here are some examples: “I’m thinking about you” - this shows the action of thinking. It means I’m doing the mental work of thinking about you. “I think Haitian food is tasty” - this uses the verb “to think” in its usual meaning, which is like “to believe.” It means I believe Haitian food is amazing. That’s my opinion, and I don’t care what others say. Do you see the difference? Even if you say, “I’m thinking about Haitian food,” it means you’re probably going to get it or cook it. There’s an action happening. But if I say, “I think she’s happy,” it’s the same as saying, “I believe she’s happy.” Let me know if that makes sense!
