The AC Baths in Taupo are good value for families, large pools, indoor and outdoor, so cool. Or hot, rather...

Cool animation of how Taupo was formed by one of the largest known volcanic eruptions.

geez this video made me feel lucky to live in Taupo (I still pronounce it tawpo haha) no every morning when I drive along the lake I feel pretty lucky, after nearly 10 years in Vancouver, living in Taupo gives me a faint similar vibe to the West Coast. Can't wait to see your Vancouver video to make me miss it so much!!

Lots of MTB trails around the lake. A bunch of us meet up once a year, for a long weekend. We come from different parts of the North Island, and slowly working our way through the list of trails. But there are MTB Trails all over NZ. And lots of places to hire bikes. There are also multi-day tour trails, often following the route of old railways. I've not done one of those yet, but my wife is keen, so we may before too long.

Taupo = Toe Paw as in your big toe and your cats paw That thermal park - if you are in the water in the little cove near the small waterfall its super warm but if you move out towards the flowing river its cold.

Yeah the water and temperature in winter is colder so the warm water doesn't have the same effect in winter as it does in summer. A better one is kerosene creek just out of rotorua

Oh mates, even for some of us kiwis we are still getting better at correct Māori pronunciation, we used to say Taupo like, tow-poe, now toe-paw… once you hear someone with good Māori dialect you get it, rolling the ‘r’s etc 👌😎

The po in Taupo is pronounced more like Poe as in Edgar Allan Poe. So "Two-poe", although "two" doesn't really do it justice.

Great video. I've been to Taupo more times than I can remember. I lived in the Napier/Hastings area for years. Your pronouciation of Taupo isn't correct. Try asking a Maori person or maybe Google it, good try though. Huka Falls are spectacular to say the least. The bridge you were on is new but the old one you felt the sheer power of the water and it vibrated as well. If you want to see thermal activity go to Wai O Tapu from memory it's 45 odd minutes from Rotorua. Well worth the visit and entrance fee. Safe travels back to Vancouver.
