Shocked you don't have more views, love what I've watched so far

I appreciate you saying that. I'm proud of my content, I think I need to focus in on my packaging. Changing the space and mic position for better sound, think my thumbnails and titles could use some work

In Ruins of Symbaroum (dark fantasy, 3rd party publisher), we have short rests, long rests, and extended rests (24 hours in a safe place). Short rests are standard, except Hit Dice also help with Corruption and getting spell resources back (which are the same thing in the setting), long rests give you some hp back, and only extended rests give you all your hp back and Hit Dice too.

That's one that's always been on my list to check out, and you've definitely bumped it up the list with this comment

Using the best rest variant for a campaign is one of the best lessons for a DM to learn. It solves so many common complaints. I plan on doing a video on this topic too when I get around to it! Edit: And creating downtime and the opportunity to play multiple characters is SO FUN. I highly recommend it.

I’d watch that! It’s definitely one game dial that makes a huge impact and I find a lot of people are scared to touch it. It really felt like a revelation to me when I realized I could change it, and actually keep changing it for different phases and aspect within the same campaign

Great Video. I learned another thing from you. In my first game the players all had short rest characters (moin druid, warlock and ranger) so we used that mechanic a lot. Now i know to keep that in mind to keep it fair.

That makes me feel good. Every table and game is different, and like most things in life: there's always more to learn

I’ve been unknowingly using the epic heroism style of rest but I like that because I can give my PCs really intense encounters and know that they’ll have to pull out all there stops if they wanna survive. That being said I would like to try that gritty realism it seems like they’re can be a lot of rp options when you make a long rest for 7 days

It's always funny when you discover you've homebrewed something that already existed. I pretty much reinvented Adventurer's League last year for a stretch by accident

Any video with a Kobayashi Maru reference is a WINNER

By nerd culture standards I'm not even a huge Star Trek guy but I think the Kobayashi Maru is the ship I reference the most

Oooo I really like the idea of safe heavens tho I’ll ask my PCs if they’d be interested in that play style plus I gave a merchant some scrolls of tiny hut so that could now be more useful to them this was a great video man!

Glad you liked it! And definitely the right call to ask your group if they want to try something instead just showing up and telling them.

i’m experimenting with variant rest rules since my party are about to start doing a lot of travelling. we’re doing 8 hour short rests and 24 hour long rests while out in the wilderness. my thinking behind this is that i don’t want to make it impossible to long rest while travelling, but it will mean an extra day of downtime. as soon as they get to an inn or somewhere safe to stay we revert back to regular rests.

I think that’s a great approach, it should make town’s valuable and keep travel encounters interesting

That’s why i always have „tiny hut“ prepared before going on a combat heavy adventure!
@RdotDoyle2 жыл бұрын
Ha! Making rests a little harder to come by makes getting tiny hut feel so much better when you get there
