Don't Starve: The Best Way to Deal with Hounds (The Houndius Shootius Turret)

Hounds got you down? Here's a handy and easily reproducible survival guide, featuring the Houndius Shootius turret! I'm sure you're thinking that ol' Bumbleborg is trying to pull a fast one on you, but most experts agree that this is undoubtedly the most efficient way to deal with hounds out there.

This guide works great! On day 1 I snuck into the Deerclops den which totally exists, plucked outs it's eye while it was asleep, then went down to the ruins and asked the Ancient Guardien for his horn. He said no, but then I said please and he handed it over. After that I had my Houndius SHootius ready and we made hounds go extinct before the sun even set!

winter is easy...you just have to understand that u need to be close to rabbits or spiders....u dry rabbit meat for jerky or u cook 1 monster meat with 3 veggys, fruits or 3 blocks of ice witch u can mine....its simple...meatballs are op as fuck...and if you need sanity or health u use tent.

If you can kill both Deerclop and Ancient Guard, hounds is surely not a big problem for you. Best way to deal with Hounds (in the starting of the game) is stay close to the Beefalos. 'Houndius Shootius' is the one of the best defending machine I can't denied that, but it's too hard for beginner player or even pro player to build it. Anyway I like the production of this video, keep going on. :D

In SW (or SW linked worlds) a cheaper way is to plant a field of elephant cactus (make sure to wear cactus armor) and run into it during a hound wave; hounds get quickly destroyed, and you can just replant and fertilize the withered cacti with ash

Seriously, the best way to deal with hounds is just find the reed/tentacle-field. It's the easiest and fastest way to do. Day 1 look for the reed/tentacle-field and start building your camp somewhere near it. When Hounds show up just run through the field, you wont get hurt by the tentacles since they have a bit of a delay on popping up from the ground.

You forgot to mention that hounds like to attack walls. It's a good idea to put the houndius shootius outside the walls to kill the hounds before they break them. A bit like you had in that last part with the spike trap.

Not only do Houndious Shootious' kill Pigmen and Hounds, but also kill (or attack, whatever...) LUREPLANTS! When they spawn in your base and you have a Shootious, they beat them to death (yay video reference) and done. No more worrying!

Something you've missed, you don't even need to attack, all you gotta do is click attack and the Shootius will do all the job for you, and this is probably the easiest way to kill birds

I find that killing the DragonFly, Bearger, Moose/Goose, Ancient Guardian, Deerclops, a Spider Queen, a Queen Bee, Toadstool Boss, and some random Pigman named Steve will cause the game to crash, but when you open it, you get 1 tooth trap at the cost of 99% of your health, hunger and sanity. This is by far the best method. Now you can also deal with the bosses above! :D

Guys the most efficient way of dealing with hounds is luring them into a spider nest! You can build some around your base (not close enough that the spiders attack you at night) and when the hounds come, just run around the spider nests and eventually the hounds and the spiders will fight each other! If its daytime, step on the web to aggro the spiders out of the nest. If its night, just run around the spiders.

if you call this ' beginner', then I dont want to know what 'advanced' is. I found the best way to deal with hounds is to get some basic armor, usually log armor will do. then simply walk past some rabbits to distract some or all of the hounds chasing you. when there is only 1 left, turn on it and kill it. the amount of damage you take should be pretty small.

What if you're playing DST and turning on caves makes you lag? Yeah I just normally turn to tooth traps and Beefalo, Deerclops is rather easy to kite too, I did it as Wigfrid in DST with a Tentacle Spike, her helmet, and a log suit, and 10 pieces of jerky, for sanity, but it was my second winter, not my first winter, I didn't see him in my first winter, I heard him, and I went to look at my Pig Village, and some houses were destroyed, no clue where he went

just normal spear is fine all you need is log suit (+ football helmet would be nice too, but not needed) i got to like... 70 days in my third play easily (of course, i do watch some let's play to get to that point in 3rd try)
